On the palate flavors of blackberry and currants, with notes of licorice, tobacco, some floral and cedar spice. Fine tannins, long finish, ending with fruit, vanilla, oak and spice. Flavors of black berry/currants with hints of dark chocolate and roasted nuts. Long and smooth finish. Intense but well balanced tannins and acidity. Medium-plus body and nice freshness. Wow. A relic from my trip to Waiheke in ‘08, it’s holding up remarkably well. Spot on Bordeaux-like character with hints of bell pepper and graphite to go along with seamless tannin and racy acidity. The fruit character is still bright and sings with cranberry, cherry and red cassis in perfect harmony with the structure of the wine. Glad I waited and glad I have another bottle! — 17 days ago

The palate is more black fruit (blackberry and black currant) focused with hints of black tea, baking spices, wet stones and dried mint. Touch of saline on the finish.
