Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1720

Smoked earth and truffle and seared beef, raspberry and blackberry with graphite and red cherry flex big terroir muscle showing baked poppyseed, roses, burnt rubber and a grain of mint, aromatically. Apocalyptic, ecstatically. Raspberry-cherry reduction with a rich cranberry tart, morel, smoked cherry and red currants, fig and allspice; endlessly transmogrifying into nuanced decadence. Amazing, seductive, bold.

Les Cazetiers Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2005

2005 vintage. In a weird place. Opened two hours prior and not showing any acidity/tannins and only primary fruit (predominant dark plum flesh-not skin). Acidity/tannins started to circle back around 1.5 hours later after initially tasting. 50/50 a day two wine or a disappointment. Anyone’s guess at this point. 11.28.25. — 7 months ago

I haven’t drunk many ‘05 red burgs, but it’s amazing to me how many notes, for years, across a range of producers, have expressed disappointment or puzzlement about why ‘05 X or ‘05 Y is not quite firing on all cylinders.

I might try one GC tonight. Tom I agree the vintage was highly acclaimed perhaps the quality of the grapes led to overconfidence in the wine making process.

Aux Cras Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2012

Give it a 15 min decant. Has a unique flavor profile. Minerals, faint cherries 🍒 tart oranges may be touch of bergamot the juice not the zest. And something which reminds me of a cut lawn which starts to dry out. Interesting juice. At its peak. — 7 years ago

Viré-Clessé Chardonnay 2014

Can tell that everything is there to be a great wine but it just feels like the age has taken a bit off of it's zippy exciting edge. Feels and tastes a little flat. Like I would have probably loved this 2 years ago...

Still solid though.
