Les Grands Cailloux

Cayuse Vineyards

Cailloux Vineyard Syrah 2017

Dark ruby/Inky in color with a wide reddish rim.

Stinky nose, as expected, and dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Full-bodied and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.

Showing black fruits with wood, earth, vegetables, spices, barnyard, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf, tar, black tea and bitter herbs.

Medium finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a unique Syrah from Walla Walla Valley. Rich and extracted. Soft and elegant. Very much 'in your face' kind of wine.

This 7 year old is still young, and needs a few hours to open up properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.

This Single Vineyard is nicely balanced and complex with a nice mouthfeel. Not my usual style, but very tasty.

I've had a few vintages of this wine and it always delivers.

Wine Spectator 94 points. Wine Advocate 96 points.

Good by itself as a sipping wine.

A blend of Syrah with a touch of Viognier. Only 859 cases produced.

13.8% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$120.

Brise Cailloux Cornas Syrah 2021

Really nice and way better on day three being open. A lot of brine and meaty qualities but some good fruit that was even light and tart. Pretty great balance. — 3 months ago

Comtes de Champagne Grands Crus Blanc de Blancs Champagne Chardonnay 2008

Great vintage for Comte that is drinking beautifully. This was rich, open showing pear, apple, brioche with a creamy mouth feel. — 6 days ago

Châteauneuf-du-Pape White Rhône Blend 2019

Holy sh*t this has hit a new level. Floral as all get out with ripe jasmine and pressed white flowers. Gained massive volume with a few years of age; tremendous rocky bite, phenolic, smokey, notes of caramel, brûlée, tangerine essential oil. Just fantastic. — 2 months ago

2014. Light, sour cherry, leather, and a little Brett funk. Went great with the lamb dishes we had tonight! — 3 months ago

Les Grands Chaillots Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2021

2021 vintage. Great producer and rarely see such an esteemed one with availability/affordability. Had to pounce. $120 on the local bistro list and was worth every penny. Medium/medium-heavy body. Chilled it down for 15 mins and pounced. Consistent palate representation with a harmonious, zippy cracked black pepper exeunt. Hit the spot perfectly. Didn't pair perfectly with the pork chop (bone in) avec fig/port reduction sauce but didn't care about grub at that point. 7.23.24. — 2 months ago

Still Pinot from Champagne. More burgundy than domestic. Nimble. — 3 months ago

Vieilles Vignes Grands Cras Morgon Gamay 2021

Leans into its carbonic character, with a confectionary nose of bright cherry-plum bubble gum, loads of granite, and almost a subtle just-dug root vegetable note. In the mouth it has an initial belt of high/toned fruit, but then slims down and eases into a lean feel, with fine, chalky minerality being the last characteristic. Definitely on the lighter side but quite flavorful. Seems a little disjointed and would probably benefit from another year or so in the bottle to come together. — 4 months ago
