Comte Armand

Clos des Epeneaux Monopole Pommard 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2010

Pale to mid Ruby. A sooty earthy savoury red fruited note with raspberry and new leather. The palate is reserved yet with M+ intensity. Delicate yet assertive. Still very fresh for its age. Elegant with enough palate weight to make it totally enjoyable. Benjamin Leroux was the winemaker who has gone on to more accolades with his own label. Jasper Morris thought that this was the best wine made by Benjamin Leroux during his 14 year tenure at Domaine du Comte Armand. Would go on for several more years if you were lucky enough to be holding some. Pommard is another commune which has no Grand Crus but this must be one of the best Premier Crus. I concur with Jasper Morris MW when he had a bottle of this very wine with friends when he said “we were very sad to finish the bottle “. My son Hugh bought this wine for me from Sotheby’s NY in December 2013 and brought it home in his luggage for Christmas that year and I am so glad he did. This is one of the 1001 Wines. — 4 months ago

@Jose Lorenzo Those 22s are probably good for 15 to 20 years judging on this 2010.

@Bob McDonald For some reason I have never had a bottle that wowed me from this producer. Have 1-2 bottles remaining .

La Blanche Voie Spécial Club-Parcellaire Verzy Grand Cru Champagne Blend

I have yet to “meet” a Special Club that I didn’t love. This ☝️ may sit at the top of my list.

Special Club Champagne is the highest tier of classification that grower Champagnes can achieve. As of 2021, there were 28 Club de Trésors, or Club of Treasures, members. There is a rigorous process before a champagne can be bottled in a dedicated green Special Club bottle.

The 2013 Mouzon-Leroux, La Blanche Voie Spécial Club Parcellaire is made from equal parts of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, zero dosage, that comes from the village of Verzy. 100% delicious.

Cuvée Clos des Avaux Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Vibrant Ruby with aromas dark berry fruits floral and spice aromas. On the palate cherry, currant and raspberry flavors with some fresh cinnamon spice and tea notes. Vibrant acidity, elegant fine tannins, well balanced just starting to wake up, long finish ending with slight earthy notes, plenty of depth, will continue to develop. Nice, but a bit pricey! — 5 years ago

L'ascendant Solera Verzy grand Cru Champagne

Oct 2022 disgorgement

Mix of 14/16 vintage with 2017.

Yeasty and good vibe right out of the bottle

As it sits and settles - medium body with a little punch. Less citrus and more stone fruit. Pear flavor.

Really enjoyed this and will search for more as this was last bottle

Slightly more acidic than I like. It is a polished wine and the 2015 vintage is singing at this moment but it seems tart to me. #vosneromanée — 5 years ago

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2018

Well aware that we were committing infanticide but retail pricing let us rationalize. Big whiff of high quality oak could not hide beautiful orchard fruit and scents of lemon. In the mouth oak dominated but similar to the nose it could not suppress the purity of the fruit. My score reflects today. In a dozen years if things go as planned this will rate much higher. — 7 months ago

Corton Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Medium body, very fragrant black fruit, some tobacco and salt. Very elegant and feminine. I expect more from a chambertin, this is a very light enjoyable version missing some of the oomph of a very serious gevrey. — a year ago
