It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Inky in color with a short reddish rim.

Nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, licorice, chocolates, light earth, spices, herbs, tobacco leaf, dark coffee and peppercorn.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate and fruit forward with plums, cooked cherries, currants, cedar, vanilla, leather, earth, chocolates, tobacco, spices, peppercorn, coffee and cola.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Merlot from Saint Emilion in Bordeaux. Elegant and fruity, complex and smooth. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel.

This 2022 was a great vintage in the Right Bank, and it is definitely showing. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years.

Good right out of the bottle, and good by itself as a sipping wine.

A blend of mostly Merlot with Cabernet Franc.

I’m not focused on sweet liquorous wines, but I had a lot of pleasure with this pretty almost four-year-old bottle. The evolutionary notes add depth and relief to notes evoked by other comments (peach, apricot, bitter orange, honey, nutmeg) a magnificent wine tasting.

Moi qui ne suis pas porté sur les vins doux liquoreux, j’ai ici trouvé beaucoup de plaisir avec un joli flacon quasi quadragénaire. Les notes d’évolution apportent de la profondeur et beaucoup de relief sur des notes évoquées par les autres commentaires (pèche, abricot, orange amer, miel, noix de muscade) un magnifique vin de dégustation. — 5 years ago

My son’s English cocker dog named “Pinot” loved it too (no worries bottle was empty). Easy to recognize with that very Cotat signature, nose of mint, spices, pears, white flowers, nutmeg. Palate is nice, expressive, round and rich, acidity is backward, there is a sweetness to it as always but a bit too much for my taste, will wait my other 2012 a few years. 90-91

Facile à reconnaître au nez qui a des arômes épicées, poires, fleurs blanches, noix muscade, menthe. La bouche est ronde et assez “ sucreuse “, acidité plus en retrait, c’eat riche et gras, assez long. C’est bon et différent mais un petit côté un peu trop sucré à mon gout et je vais attendre encore plus mes autres 2012. 90-91 — 6 years ago

Beautiful entry-level cuvée by one of the great artisans of the Northern Rhône.
Simple and straightforward Syrah. Nose and attack on fresh black fruits (blackberries, blueberries). Clear neat body, enhanced with touches of violet, white pepper, and slightly minty, characteristic of Syrah ... Final which unfolds admirably with delicately chiseled tannins. Nice bottle to open as an aperitif, on a cold meats and cheese board, ideally accompanied by some fruit and nuts, and a piece of fresh baguette.

Belle cuvée d’entrée de gamme par l’un des grands artisans du Rhône Nord.
Syrah simple et droite tres gourmande. Nez et attaque sur les fruits noirs frais (mûres, myrtilles). Corp limpide soigné, réhaussé de touches de violette, poivre blanc, et légèrement mentholée, caractéristique de la Syrah... Finale qui se déploie admirablement avec des tanins délicatement ciselés. Belle bouteille à ouvrir des l’apéro, sur une planche de charcuterie et fromages, idéalement accompagnés de quelques fruits et noix, et un bout de baguette fraîche. — 6 years ago
