J & P Testuz

Ployez-Jacquemart

Granite Champagne Blend

this P-J Granite, a special NV first time bottling, was spectacular. Creamy layered with deep, deep rich flavors and very quiet mousse. Partial ML fermentation, mostly Chardonnay, from a dozen vintages, such a lovely wine. — 9 months ago

La Verchère Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay 2016

Elegant P-F but yet another one that J found fuller bodied and I found thin, plus that vaguely antiseptic nose and edge on the backend that I get from a lot of these...well short of the Vergelesses a few weeks ago....but then it is a P-F. Couldn’t stand up to roast chicken in creamy morel sauce, disappointingly — 3 years ago

Château Hosanna

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2017 Hosanna was one of my favourite crus from Ets J-P Moueix from barrel. Now in bottle, it remains a delightful Pomerol. It has a generous and beautifully defined bouquet with ample red cherry, crushed strawberry and light black truffle aromas that are actually reminiscent of Bélair-Monange. The palate is medium-bodied but denser, thicker than its peers. There is real substance to this Hosanna that puts the relatively lightweight Certan-de-May in its place. It shows good grip with a saline finish. This is a deeply impressive Hosanna. Rejoice! (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2020)

Wild Ride Orange Verdelho 2021

P&J don’t miss. Verdelho, skin contact so it’s got this amazing orange colour. Beautiful drink, needed decanting, sulphuric smell came through but once decanted. Nothing but delish. — 2 years ago

Trocken Riesling 2016

Green apples, lemon curd, wet rock. Good amount of acidity. Light body. When summer comes this could be a perfect summer sipper! Bought at P&J, $13.99. Really good value. — 5 years ago

Domaine A. et P. de Villaine

Bouzeron Aligoté 2017

Nose has yellow apple peel, pear slice, straw and beach sand.

Palate has tangerine zest, ripe pear, under-ripe yellow peach, cold clementine orange with medium acidity and slightly dry finish.
A nice bottle; not sure if this wants more time, or a couple years past prime...

On the sold out (18K+ patrons) Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our guest Conductor Ken-David Masur is leading a 90th birthday celebration of John Williams. BSO soloists tonight are J. Williams Hudgins (vibraphone) & Jessica Zhou (harp), joined by Yo-Yo Ma (cello), Branford Marsalis (saxophone), Eric Revis (bass) and James Taylor (vocals/guitar). A truly wonderful night lay ahead, and my money is certainly on hearing at least one or two Star Wars movements this evening...

@Severn Goodwin, I can remember buying this cuvée from KLWM In Berkeley 35 years ago, but haven’t tried it in awhile. John Williams — WOW! Saw him conduct a few different times at the Hollywood Bowl 25-30 years ago, lucky you, enjoy!!

@Doug Powers Because of JW's connection to the BSO, we actually get to see him conduct about 2x per season, minimum. Although last night was all about him not having to conduct, he did lead a movement from Superman and the theme from Indiana Jones during the encore.
