Cherry red in colour. Notes of nettle, leather, old red cherries and cow yard. Smelly but tolerable - like a lot of naturally made wines. Occhipintis other venture COS - she is the O - keep the winemaking as natural as possible shunning chemical treatments in the vineyard (they are biodynamic) and shunning cultured yeasts in the winery. The red wines are bottled unfiltered. Ultra savoury and rustic. A blend of two Sicilian varieties Nero d’Avola and Frappato. Very tasty but not for long cellaring. My daughter who lives in Copenhagen loves natural wine and is surrounded by it in that city. For me it is the occasional indulgence. — 6 years ago

This wine likes you and therefore you like it. It is accommodating and friendly and always there for you and in this Malbec afternoon of life you’re enjoying that. Don’t think too much just curl up in its cocoa-blackberry coziness and let the tiny hint of mint keep things from getting old. I’m not a giant Malbec person but this one will coddle you into indulgence — 8 years ago
A fabulous moscato to finish with my dessert! Marks having port with a Chocolate indulgence dessert! — 8 years ago
Great blend, cherries and spice with a background sweetness of caramel and toffee. Lavender and tobacco smoke in the finish with moderate tannins and a luxurious mouth feel. No doubt this one will gain complexity over the years but it is really good now. — 8 years ago
Really nicely performed. Definitely could compete with Bourgogne blanc and village wines of some serious producers. The vintage lends a little tropicality to this and it gestures at elegant indulgence in a nice way. Feels like you're drinking good winemaking, if that makes sense. — 9 years ago
Great fruit forward red, smooth — 3 years ago
Lemon lagoon biscuit monster broke the pack with a thin layer of lemon marmalade, a twist of lemon peel to tease the nose. Generous melon and merengue, apple tart, pineapple sorbet, lime, lime pith and sour orange. This is depth! I won’t insult with adgective over-indulgence: powerful.

The 2016 Claret may be my favorite since the 2012 vintage. It is just bursting with all the flavors the Matthews Claret is known for and has so much much potential. Drink now if you cannot resist; otherwise, laying it down will yield an incredible indulgence years from now. — 7 years ago

Strawberries, whiff of dried herbs, dried flowers, some bready notes. Very vinous and inviting. The acidity is offset by the round fruit profile. Unusual translucent cranberry red color. Great stuff. — 5 years ago

One of the iconic Tempranillo bottlings in North America, the 2017 ‘Impulsivo’ Tempranillo is a spectacular effort by superstar vigneron Christophe Baron. Sourced from the ‘En Chamberlin Vineyard’, the Tempranillo takes the lead with layers of Umami, bacon fat, cigar ash and green olive tapenade woven together with shades of blackberry compote and salted meats on this complex bouquet. The gorgeous aromatics bring you back to the glass for more indulgence. Once on the attack, the silky mouthfeel effortlessly glides across the mid-palate. The elegance of this wine is truly profound, as wild blackberry jam and Satsuma orange zest flavors meld with shades of Umami, bacon fat, tar and Yakima cherry on this complex palate. Wait for the exceedingly long finish that adds a brilliant crescendo to top off this masterpiece. Drink 2020-2030- 97 — 6 years ago
I gazed into the recesses of one of my wine fridges and saw this young sapling; I could not resist the call of indulgence. Remarkable purity of fruit with plums, cherries, rose petals, mint, graphite, and tilled earth. Looking forward to this opening up. — 7 years ago

Thank you to Beverly and Arvind Sodhani for a truly remarkable evening. I shipped a Magnum of Krug Rose for us to enjoy prior to dinner. The Batard Montrachet came from Arvind & Beverly’s personal cellar. It was perfect. I adore this Batard! 😍😘😘😍🙌. This was a glorious prelude to a long evening of wine indulgence. It was definitely a Marathon and not a sprint! Thank God I’ve been training all year for this evening 🤪😂😂🤪.
Thank you so much for a phenomenal evening under the stars! 🌟 💫 🌟 There’s nothing better than dinning outside in Napa during this time of year — 8 years ago
It is quite an indulgence to finally be able to tank up on this Pomerol, especially after tipping, then renouncing so many bottles of domestic reds in recent days. Merlot/ Cab Franc blends, especially by Chateaux like this one, just simply reinvigorate the soul primed for disappointment.

Royal Tokaji – 5 Puttonyos Aszú 2016
Tokaj – Hungary 🇭🇺
Overview
A classic Tokaji Aszú, made from grapes affected by Botrytis cinerea (noble rot), then macerated with must to create Hungary’s legendary sweet wine. The 5 puttonyos designation signals a rich yet balanced level of sweetness, around 120 g/L residual sugar. (Educational note: “Puttonyos” refers to the traditional baskets of aszú berries added — the higher the number, the sweeter and more concentrated the wine.)
Aromas & Flavors
Lush apricot, honey, and candied orange peel at the forefront, layered with quince, dried fig, and lemon curd. Hints of saffron, ginger, and toasted almond bring exotic spice and complexity.
Mouthfeel
Velvety and lusciously sweet, balanced by vibrant acidity that keeps it lifted. Full-bodied yet precise, with a long, honeyed finish that leaves both richness and freshness.
Food Pairings
Perfect with blue cheese, foie gras, or fruit tarts. Also excellent with roasted nuts, crème brûlée, or simply savored on its own as a meditative dessert wine.
Verdict
A benchmark Tokaji — rich, layered, and perfectly balanced. The 2016 vintage of Royal Tokaji 5 Puttonyos Aszú offers indulgence and structure, proving why Tokaji has been called “the wine of kings.” 👑🍷
Did You Know?
Tokaji Aszú is one of the world’s oldest regulated wines — protected since 1737, nearly a century before Bordeaux’s 1855 classification.
Collector’s Rarity 📌
Royal Tokaji’s Aszú wines are globally sought after, and a 5 puttonyos 2016 bottling represents both a collectible dessert wine and a piece of vinous history — 9 months ago
