Hillside Station

Flora Springs

Reserve Rutherford Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon

The longevity this wine is capable of is shocking. The color hardly looks half its age, with a blooming nose that screams a much younger, softened cab of yesteryear. After half an hour open there’s nose of blueberry and butterscotch, vanilla and spicy peppery notes still persist! Over time a mustiness emerged, along with notes of wet wood, maybe even a little mustard! There’s even still a zippy, lingering acidity on the palate that focuses towards the tip of the tongue, either flavors of ripe strawberry, blueberry, plum and some meaty savory subtle notes, but primarily jammy fruit, with a palate that develops some woody cedar and forest floor notes and as it becomes further oxygenated. This is so impressive! — 7 days ago

Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

This bottle is definitely a treat for me! Our favorite steak house serves this and it’s a hit with my juicy medium steak! I love how strong it is but also smooth to sip. — 6 months ago

Yarra Valley Heathcote Shiraz Viognier Blend 2019

Took some time to open up but became delicious. Lots of fruit but not sweet. The splash of viognier softened the Syrah a bit. — 8 months ago

Shafer Vineyards

Hillside Select Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Hillside Select is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 32 months in 100% new 60-gallon French oak barrels. Deep Ruby with pronounced aromas of dark fruits, with hints of cedar, floral, oak, herbs and spice. On the palate flavors of concentrated ripe blackberry, cherry and blackberry, pepper, tobacco, leather and earthy cacao. Fine savory tannins, well balanced, long finish, great structure ending with fruit, spice, oak and earthy mineral character. Outstanding! — 2 months ago

Qupé

Bien Nacido Hillside Estate Syrah 2016

2016 vintage. Last tasted 1.14.24 (9.4). Ripped through the last two bottles. Medium/medium-heavy body. Still plenty of meaty/gamey qualities afoot but undergoing potty training and getting domesticated. Just starting to get cultured and “pretty.” 4.12.24. — 6 months ago
