Hengst Alsace Grand Cru AOC Gewürztraminer 2017

Brief notes and selected from my cellar by mistake, to be honest. A gorgeous nose of jasmine and lychee. Rich, luscious and unexpectedly sweet for 12.5 % alcohol. Those lychees are obvious on the palate. Barb tried this before I got home and it was a great match with a mature cheddar. I will leave tasting a 2nd bottle for several years. — 4 months ago

Alsace Grand Cru Hengst Riesling 2018

Riesling from the Hengst grand cru in Wintzenheim, about 5 miles west of Colmar. Biodynamically farmed vineyards. Lean, precise, elegant with citrus, flowers and hints of rubber on the nose. On the palate there is some grapefruit. Powerful, dry, mineral. Nice saline aftertaste. — 3 years ago

Impressive Pinot Noir from a plot in the Hengst Grand Cru in Wintzenheim (Alsace appellation rules don’t permit Pinot Noir here, so it can’t be labeled as Grand Cru). Delicate, Burgundian nose, red fruit, some spices. Light, balanced, elegant, good acidity. Delicious. Positively impressed by all the wines I’ve had from this domaine. — 8 months ago

Clos Sand Alsace Riesling 2019

Vintage 2019 | very typical Riesling with so much acidity I raised my eyebrows, but it came all together with a codfish on a risotto of potatoes | at La Taverne Alsacienne in Ingersheim — 2 years ago
