Cherry strawberry tobacco
Opened it before the Russian central bank unexpectedly left the interest rate unchanged. Hence a boost to the rating ;) — 10 months ago
A personal favorite producer of mine from OR. Very small lots - hence the name. Ages well, this is the 2011 vintage. Hard to find this level of quality at the price point. I think I paid $45, they usually have a Berzerker Day deal (if you don’t know what that is, Google it, and thank me later lol). — 2 years ago
2015 Piaggia “Il Sasso” Carmignano. Made with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot. It’s dark ruby red in color, rich & plump in flavor. Aromas of lavender, spice, & tobacco please your senses. Firm tannins here hence plenty of life ahead. A very dark fruit-driven wine. Cheers🍷 — 4 years ago
92 is rounding up a bit.
A couple things before notes. I have had other Heidi wines but not hers & Bo’s. Just wasn’t feeling retail-ish on the B&B, nor had anyone open one for me. This surfaced at just under half price. So, time to check this Heidi box.
This is a 2017; which many shied away from. Hence, the buy at half price. I would have said in my two coravined previous tastings on different nights, the fruit was nice and it still is nice. However, in getting to the bottom 1/3 of the bottle, it has taken on some additional depth & character. I imagine still not as much depth & character as their better vintages.
The nose shows some nice candied florals and mid fruits with a dark core. Some smoke (it is not smoke taint as they finished harvesting on 10/3 and the Tubbs & Atlas fires started 10/8) dry tobacco, new leather, oak, dry herbs, darker cola, moist volcanics & clay, withering dark & red flowers.
The palate is definitely one of the drier Napa Cabernets I’ve had lately. Feels like it leaves dry oak powder all over your mouth. M+ dry tannins. The fruits are bright & ripe; blackberries, black raspberries, plum, some purple fruits, lean strawberries & cherries. Smoke, dry tobacco, new leather, oak, dark spice, leaner baking spices profile, a bit of dark chocolate baking bar, dry herbs, darker cola, moist volcanics & clay, dry topsoil, dry limestone powder, black tea, dry tree bark w/ a touch of sap, withering dark & red flowers, acidity is sound-ish, it just ticks the box of balanced, tension & structure is solid, finishes short-under a minute and a little thin in the mid palate, some elegance and lands on oak, earthiness & spice.
It’s still early on this and there is room for improvement with some more evolution & integration but don’t believe this 2017 will ever live up to its winery price point. — 2 months ago
I’m on vacation so I broke my mid-week fast!
In my mind, this is another top drawer French producer. No perceptible fault lines on the nose or palate. Think about the number of producers in France producing Chablis and you realize that it’s a struggle to innovate within that market, but Moreau pulls it off.
This is laser focused and tense. Unsure if this sees oak, hence the focus. Notes of wet stones, peach and lemon. The mid palate displays zippy acidity and a deftly balanced mouthfeel. If you like French chards, you’ll enjoy this. — 3 years ago
Fishing trip to Northern Wisconsin with a few bottles. Hence the plastic glass- gonna be much safer than glass around the campfire after I'm a few glasses deep. This is my Pape-Bleu Ribbon, as it were. Stony and juicy, good acidity and moderate tannins. Very solid wine from one of my favorite regions. — 5 months ago
The 2021 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru was bottled the previous May. It is still obdurate and backward on the nose with touches of yellow fruit and a hint of white peach. The palate is taut and fresh, very saline, but perhaps it doesn't quite deliver the knockout finish I expected from barrel, hence my slightly lower score. Still a serious Chablis, though. Another fabulous wine at Estiatorio Milos. Are you ready? Apparently the reason it’s called Quartz, is the stones in the earth absorb the sun’s heat, keeping the roots of the vines warmer during cooler night temps! Hence this delicious wine! Love learning these nuggets - pun intended — 4 years ago

Have not had an “a-ha” moment with these wines and hence, have stopped buying. What am I missing? — a month ago
