One of the treasures of Emília Romagna at Osteria Riva $150. Quite full and robust following the 2000 Marzieno Zerbina which preceded it $130, which blew Andy away - reminded him of ancient Hill of Grace - thinner, closer to the end of its life but much finer style, while the 2005 from the previous week ($120) can probably survive a few more years. — 9 years ago

Drei Donà ‘Riserva Palazza’ Sangiovese Superiore 2015: Medium-bodied. Elegant structure & balance. Nice acidity. Black cherry. Cranberry. Dried herbs. Tobacco. Earth. Long finish. Consisting of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, this Cuvèe blew my expectations away. Strong complex flavors which evolved beautifully as the evening progressed. LP 3 from the Gurdjieff/ de Hartmann box set and a spectacular Barbera. The music is a collection of beautiful piano compositions based on the spiritual teachings of George Gurdjieff. The wine has all the juicy pleasure one expects from Barbera, but has plenty of structure as well. Tannins add some texture & the acidic lift adds complexity to the wine.
