Greek Wine Cellars (d. Kourtakis)

Lyrarakis

Psarades Vineyard Dry Plyto 2017

Andrew Holod
9.1

As well made and satisfying as I remembered. Pours a pale yellow gold. Nose is a lemons, zest, oil, blossoms and wet stone. Medium plus body, fresh medium plus acid, dry. A great alternative to more reductive, minimally oaked Chardonnay. — 17 days ago

Glinavos

Vlahiko Dry Red Blend 2016

Simply needs time to decant! At first, harsh bitter notes like vinegar and soot. After some time could taste very dark fruit like blackberry with maybe some notes of tobacco. Will try again without company and proper decanting and will re rate. Had with Betsy Saraya Britt with Lamb and broccolini — 16 days ago

Santorini Assyrtiko 2018

Incredible assyrtiko. If Hatzidakis is like Raveneau making Assyrtiko, Vassaltis is Dauvissat. — 11 days ago

Ktima Biblia Chora

Plagios Chardonnay 2019

My first venture into Greek wine. Pale yellow with nose that is fruity. I believe it’s a blend largely Sauvignon blanc. Pear, melon and sweetness on the palate. Smooth on the way and paired well with the octopus — 9 days ago

Deux Dieux Saint George Syrah

Vintage 2018 | fine smell, cherries, exquisite taste with liveliness and roundness, velvety structure after aeration, not disturbing 14,5 alcohol. too young, alas. Paired with black pudding/apple. — a day ago

Ayrarakis Wines

Kotsifali 2018

Nose of a cab sav but body of a pinot noir. Was hoping for a nice full bodied wine but it falls a bit flat. Spices and red fruits. Pairs well with cheese, especially a creamy blue. — 14 days ago

Gaia (Gaia's Estate)

Agiorgitiko Red Dry Wine 2013

It’s been a few years since I last opened one of these, and this is the first of the 2013s. They are ageing great. Super aromatic, perfumed berries and herbs. Cherries and spices and structure and finish. — 5 days ago

Blue Seirina

Kotsifali Syrah

Lovely, dry red but light. I don’t feel like it has to be 40° outside before it’s appropriate. — 7 days ago

Skouras

Megas Oenos Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

An absolutely fantastic Greek blend - very well refined with a major presence of dark red fruits, chocolate and tobacco - a serious red but light on the palette. Finishes well. Do t pass this one by and pair it a soft Brie or a good mushroom dish! — 13 days ago
