Ken Wright Cellars

Bryce Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017

Our first single vineyard wine from Ken Wright having only tried the Willamette AVA Pinot before. That was intriguing but this is another level; can describe a good amount of it but it’s the X factor that really makes it - it’s captivating and just all around impressive. Fresh and brambly berries; blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, cherry, plus nutmeg and even a little anise. Fruit forward but showing restraint and balanced perfectly with both tannins and acidity. Acidity brings it all together and what so many new world wines are missing. “We have great ripe fruit, but this is still wine, after all.” Absolutely worth justifying treating yourself to this on occasion — 6 hours ago

Pinnacle Ridge

Lehigh Valley Cabernet Franc 2018

Who knew they made great wine in the Lehigh Valley? This is the top grape in the region according to the producer. Shockingly good. Ripe berries, delicious soil, and well balanced. Will be buying again. Thanks to Peggy @ Earth for hooking it up. A very nice first Pennsylvanian wine for me. — 10 days ago

Anthill Farms

Comptche Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

Light bodied, which this Mendocino site doesn’t always seem to produce. Extremely fresh. Sour cherries. Perfumed. Juicy acid. — 5 days ago

Miller Wine Works

Shake Ridge Vineyard Tempranillo

@Delectable Wine This is the Shake Ridge Vineyard Tempranillo. This is very reminiscent of old world Temp. Sturdy black fruits with pencil lead, smoke, singed herbs, dill, and vanilla. All of this comes through on the palate with the addition of a wet sidewalk minerality and orange peel. Dry and grippy tannins, medium acid, firm structure, medium length finish. Neat bottle. — 4 days ago

Turley

Rattlesnake Ridge Zinfandel 2016

Very savory showing. Aromatic herbs. Meat pie. Blood. Some of the tannin you’d expect from Howell. None of the fire you get with Dragon. — 5 days ago

Westcott

Estate Pinot Noir 2016

Westcott is one of my favourite wineries in Ontario thanks to their Pinot Noir.

I had the 13 a few years ago... but there’s something about their sweet 16.

Cherry. Smokiness.

Paired this with truffle agnolotti with freshly shaved truffle.

Can’t wait to open the Reserve in a few years.

Adelaida Vineyard Grenache Blanc Blend 2019

First time trying👍🏼
Definitely buying more

Winery Notes: "Blend: 77% Grenache Blanc, 18% Picpoul, 5% Rousanne. This is our second Adelaida Vineyard bottling. Paso Robles is the epicenter of new Rhone plantings in California. We are fortunate to be able to source grapes from Adelaida Vineyards, who planted grenache blanc, roussanne, viognier and picpoul blanc among other more established varieties such as grenache noir, syrah and mourvedre (or mataro). Their vineyard lies on the limestone hills of the Adelaida District, thirteen miles from the Pacific coast. Warm days, cool nights and balanced vines promote great acidity in the grapes. Fermentation: Whole-cluster pressed. Natural primary finished February 2020, and secondary finished by April 2020. Barrels: 88% barrel aged in air-dried American oak barrels; 8% new, 9% three-year-old; 61% four-year-old, 10% five-year-old, 12% six-year-old. 12% concrete tank aged. Aging: Eight months in barrel."

Haven’t opened a lot of Ridge lately but, have over my life. Still have not opened a bad bottle of Ridge. Not even one corked.

I also learned a long time ago, never open Ridge reds young.

The nose reveals, ruby, candied, spice driven, floral fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, strawberries & creamy raspberries. White pepper, dark, medium spice, anise to black licorice, vanilla, clove, touch of nutmeg, alcohol vapors, mixed berry cola, dark, rich, turned earth, grey volcanics, limestone, dry, crushed rocks with bright, candied; dark, red, purple & blue florals framed with in soft field of violets & lavender.

The palate is rounding up to its peak but, it is still ascending. The tension, structure, length & balance have started their prime integration. The tannins have round, tarry, meaty baby teeth. Ruby, candied, spice driven, floral fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, strawberries & creamy raspberries. White pepper, dark, medium spice, anise to black licorice, vanilla, clove, touch of nutmeg, alcohol vapors, mixed berry cola, sweet tarriness, used, French expresso grounds, moist clay, warm, well done toast, touch herbaceous tree sap with bark, eucalyptus, some mint, dark, rich, turned earth, grey volcanics, limestone, dry, crushed rocks & top soil, oak barrel shavings with bright, candied; dark, red, purple & blue florals framed with in soft field of violets & lavender. The acidity is round & refreshing. The long, well balanced, ruby, lush, elegant finish loads as juicy fruits rounding into a great combination of earth & spice persisting for days.

Not quite the perfect pizza pairing but, the evening was put together last minute & I wanted to open the 97 Phelps Syrah. This was my back up bottle in case the 97 hadn’t held up. Somehow, the Ridge got opened as well. I hate it when that happens.
