Khikhvi 2019

8.9

Fun wine, extended skin contact - looks like a Rose and tasted like one too: mix between tart red fruit & savory notes, some potpourri, fairly exotic. Palate was bit more austere, open canvas for variety of light fare. We had huge salad w/smoked salmon and it was fantastic. Balanced and dry finish, go find some Georgian wine! — 3 months ago

Orgo

Dila-O Rkatsiteli Mtsvane

Doing a tasting at our wine club, The Nightshift, with the theme “Ancient Vines.” Starting off here to understand Georgian wines better. Hopefully a good beginning…

(Draft of the novel in the background)

Aromas of honeysuckle, peaches, apricot, dried fruits, unfiltered honey.

I don’t know what the ratings are smoking. Maybe people are biased towards Eurocentric/American winemaking traditions we’re used to seeing in the marketplace.

With a winemaking tradition 8,000 years old that claims to be the birthplace of wine, this is as old world as you’re going to get.

Honeyed yams and sweet potato, dry like the tartness of an unripe peach, tea like qualities.

I think this is lovely (especially for a tasting). It’s going to stack up nicely with some fun cheeses. Excited.

Supérieur Saperavi 2015

Delicious. Well balanced acidity and tannins. jammy. Paired well with Georgian dumplings and katchupuri. Would also be great on its own. — a year ago

Finger Lakes Rkatsiteli 2021

The producer of this lovely wine likens this ancient Georgian variety to sauvignon blanc. While this did have similar aromas of grass and lemon pith, as well as tropical fruit notes on the palate, I found this to be softer, and less tangy, than sauv blanc. Almost tastes like sauv blanc blended with riesling! 100% Rkatsiteli. 9/15/22. — 2 years ago
