Monts Damnés Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Lovely at cellar temp. Pop and pour. Sweet tarragon, a touch of va, melon, melon rind, a touch of vanilla, gooseberry, and great richness. Lovely acidity and density, more sour apple, gooseberry, grapefruit pith and nut oil. Very nice. — a month ago

Floral on the nose. Crisp with light citrus and fine bubbles. A lovely, light sipping sparkler. Excellent bang for the buck. — 18 days ago

Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Exhibits a lot of subtlety and finesse for the region, with savory notes dominating the nose and palate. There’s a lot going on under the surface with cherries taking a back seat to wild earthy notes, rose petal, spice, and a very chalky minerality. It doesn’t have the power of other Chambertin great wines, but it’s incredibly complex and elegant. — 8 days ago

Vaillons Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2016

Grapefruit and some pine on the nose. Intriguing, almost riesling-like nose. Chalky, saltwater taffy and spring water. Drinking well now. — 16 days ago

Domaine Gérard Julien et Fils

Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2017

Drank this during the CellarTracker Virtual Burgundy Tasting last night via Zoom. My first experience with any of the wines of Domaine Julien. This was a pop and pour situation and I wished I had given it more airtime because this was suuuuuuper primary and tightly coiled. Loads of tart, wild alpine strawberries, like the Smultron you find in a Scandinavian forest, taking center stage. Tongue pricking acidity. Beyond that, there isn’t much more at this stage in development. However, the purity is beyond typical for a humble Bourgogne and a few years in the cellar would do this a great service. I expect better things when the tannins better integrate and secondary characteristics begin to appear. Drink with an extended decant or hold until 2025. — 9 days ago

Aux Saints-Juliens Nuits-Saint-Georges Pinot Noir 2014

Bangin’ Burgundy. Decanted for three hours. Faint rose petal with a freshness to the red fruit and soft earth. Elegant and precise. So lovely to drink. — 10 days ago
