Nose has washed lime, dried pineapple, wet river pebbles, citrus blossom, neutral oak barrel and dried Clementine peel.
Palate has candied lemon, grapefruit pith, dry clay-based soil, tangerine juice and moist gravel (crusher-run). Quite round on the palate, rich and enjoyable. Finish runs under a minute. Decanted +60m.
Likely a good life for this bottle, easily held in proper storage until 2028+.
Purchased at the winery in Nov. 2016, $31.
This Riesling is from estate plantings (2008) on Seneca Lake.
Day 4 Update: Nose has dried Clementine peel, cut lemon, chalk and under-ripe peach. Palate has ripe peach, orange zest and tart orange minus the citric acid. Quite fun, it's really drinking great now. Moving from 9.1 to 9.2.
@Delectable Wine Would you please drop the 'Finger Lakes' language out of the wine name please? That info is already listed in the more detailed location information, thanks. — 25 days ago
Got a sample of this Gem! Wow! Vineyard named after their dog, pic on label. Blend, 89% Cab Sauv, rest Cab Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, aged for 21 months in French oak (75% new). Dense Ruby red with complex aromas of berry fruits, an array of spices. Black cherry and sweet currants on the palate adding cinnamon, burnt leather and cacao. Great balance, structured tannins, long, long finish with mineral oak ending. Great but wait a decade. — a month ago
Had this with steak. It kept changing as it opened. A treat at each stage...very complex. Spicy and bold fruit with a long finish. — 12 days ago
maraschino cherries and rocks, got more and more leathery over time — 15 hours ago
A bit of a bitter aftertaste but pretty good when chilled — 13 hours ago
A blend of 91% Cab Sauv, 4% Petite Verdot, 3% Cab Franc & 2% Merlot, deep Ruby with aromas of complex fruit, oak & floral spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry & cherry with currant and cacao adding cedar and espresso notes. Soft tannins with a young edge, long finish, well integrated, nicely balanced, a joy to drink. Will age a long time. Wait! A Wow factor wine!! Outstanding! — a month ago
Leads with a tingly raspberry/wildberry note, but that immediately gives way to strong, strong umami, really reminiscent of beef jerky. Smoked meat, big time. Ashy and volcanic with plenty of stewed berry fruit goodness. — 14 days ago
Pale straw color in the glass.
Nose has fresh lime pith, warmed peach, peppermint candy, recently crushed slate, tart green apple peel, (light) petrol and citrus blossom.
Palate has crushed limestone, slate powder, orange pith, under-ripe peach, warmed green apple and slight pineapple core. Quite dry on the finish, runs a full minute plus, fun salty traits. Decanted +60m.
Likely a long life for this bottle, easily held in proper storage until 2030+.
Purchased at the winery in Nov. 2016, $27.
This Riesling is made with grapes grown in “block 3”, the oldest (1968 plantings), steepest and most shale-laden section of the winery’s estate vineyard on Keuka Lake.
Day 4 Update: Nose has dried lemon peel, cut peach and dried pineapple, sweetened. Palate has fresh cut orange, fresh pineapple and a mild chalky finish. Fun evolution. — 25 days ago
