Forest Glen

Glen Carlou

Paarl Chardonnay 2020

Fruit forward, but with nice butter and oak notes. Good with BBQ, but the oakiness can be overpowered by the food. — 16 days ago

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

+2 hour decant(little fine/cloudy sediment). A brooding dark magenta color. On the nose: very aromatic notes..lots of blackberry, floral, pencil lead, wet forest floor, sweet oak. Taste: blackberry, cassis, bitter chocolate, herbs, pepper and a gravelly/new leather long finish with some still there kickin tannins. YUM! Gonna give my next bottle a few more years for a better score. — 4 months ago

Laurel Glen Vineyard

Sonoma Mountain Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1997

Really? Wow. At 26 years old, not only hanging in there… but highly enjoyable. The mustiness had to blow off for a while, and then it hit its stride. Some toasty fruit remains in front of a long finish. cheers to ending 2023. …. Still going. Finish still going…. Going… — 6 months ago

Patrick Campbell "got it." Only Cabernet Sauvignon from ANY producer with the word "Sonoma" on the label that I've ever had that absolutely kicked ass and took names. Can still taste the 1986, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1994. The new version of Laurel Glen Cab is a far cry from what it used to be. Lucky you got a fleeting glimpse of a great vintage from an excellent property under the guidance of a supremely underrated winemaker. Happy New Year!

My first dauvissat Chablis - delicious and decanted in a really really long and extra decanter at chèvre d’or. Mineral and rich. With Hitomi and Manu — 6 days ago

Château Calon-Ségur

Amazing w/ the Allen Brothers A-5 wagyu.

This is another Bordeaux producer that makes wines for the ages. I’ve waited & waited on 2000, this shows some readiness. Yet, will go another 20 plus years.

Tonight this is well balanced earth & candied fruit. In 10 years, this is candied fruit & florals.

Still medium plus tannins. Blackberries, black raspberries, black plum with ample skin, juicy dark cherries, poached strawberries, raspberries, dry limestone grains with powder, dark, forest floor with dry leaves, some dry herbaceousiness-bay leaf, mint, dark spice, clove, nutmeg, some cinnamon, hints of vanillin, mid berry cola, sandalwood to cedar shavings, used leather, pipe tobacco, anise, some mocha, sun tea, dark, red, purple flowers with a touch of blue, excellent acidity and a well knitted structure, balanced, nicely tensioned with a ripe, elegant finish that lasts two-minutes.

Ready with a long decant but worth the longer wait. Now, it needs steak.

Château Cheval Blanc

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2008

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2008 Cheval Blanc is one of the go-to wines of the vintage. Now at 15 years old, it has retained the energy and focus it displayed from the outset: black fruit, crushed stone, wilted violet petals and touches of forest floor cohere wonderfully in the glass. The Cabernet here is more expressive. The palate has a slight chewiness on the entry, but it "relaxes" in the glass. It shows off its delicate lattice of tannins and perhaps a bit more backbone than I have observed on previous bottles. It's very intense on the finish where, as before, the Cabernet Franc takes charge. Superb. Keep it another three to four years if you can. Tasted at the Lia's Wings/book dinner at Medlar restaurant. Nice clear pale yellow.

Melon, mineral, tropical fruits, pineapple, and a bit of petrol.
