La Côte Rousse Red Mountain Syrah 2010

#AgedWineTuesday

Inky in color with a short brick rim.

Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity and a soft mouthfeel.

Showing black currants, cooked plums, cedar, tobacco leaf, herbs, spices, vegetables, black tea, tar, light earth and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 15 year old Washington Syrah is drinking very nicely now. In your face kind of wine. Bold, extracted and definitely delicious.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 90 minutes of airtime.

Robert Parker 92 points. Wine Enthusiasts 93 points.

Peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years.

100% Syrah grapes from Red Mountain were aged in (50% new) French oak barrels for 12 months.

14.4% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$60.

Domaine l'Aiguelière

Coteaux du Languedoc Montpeyroux Côte Rousse Syrah Blend 1995

Tasted alongside the Cote Doree, this is also nearly 100% Syrah, this cuvée seems a tad cleaner aromatically, without the gamey/brett notes, but show lovely dried redfruits, a smoky note underneath, as well as what I perceive as roasted onion skin, this seems clearly mature and at peak now, long, lingering finish, also 12.5% ABV, lovely!! — 6 months ago

La Dame Rousse Tavel Rosé Blend 2018

Sh-t. I mean. This starts inconspicuous but becomes more energetic with each day open. Coiled acid and melting taffy. Aching red fruit; dripping, swirling mineral dust. Subtly sweet, then unexpectedly dry, with a powdery texture. Worthy parallel to eg bandol rose, but even more acid. — 6 months ago

Domaine l'Aiguelière

Côte Dorée Coteaux du Languedoc Montpeyroux Syrah 1994

Less evolved than the Cote Rousse, more fruit-driven (again, redfruits mostly), less leathery, gamy, great balance, definitely shows little to no Brett, long finish, really outstanding!! — 3 years ago

@Doug Powers One of the wines that stirred my interest at the start of my wine journey! So happy to read still going strong

@Ira Schwartz, these are honestly great wines that were low-to-mid $20s in those days, which is laughable now but seemed $$$ in those days with all the Languedoc stuff in this days in the $10-15 range. But, other than Peyre-Rose (Madame Soria, IIRC), amazing wines that were a little cheaper, d’Aigueliere single cuvees were the gold standard!!
