Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1999

The 1999 Clos de la Roche VV pours a slightly hazy ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with gorgeous notes of ripe red and black fruits: raspberry, bruised strawberry, black cherry, dried red flowers, licorice, mushroom, sous bois, all spice. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and dripping with complexity. During the first couple hours, this was pretty locked up and willing to share its secrets. Towards the end of the night, this ended up being one of the wines what really started to pour it on. My favorite pairing with the boeuf Bourguignon. Drink now with some patience but better after 2029 and through 2049 with ease. — a month ago

Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1990

Third 90 Ponsot bottle served blind. This is bright tawny and translucent. When compared to the CSD served before it, this is more masculine with a dark cherry nose that is tight for the first 4-5 hours. By the time it’s served, though, it’s opened up and comes on as a rich and very powerful glass of juice. In addition to the regular notes of bing cherry, dark earth and rhubarb, this adds some mocha and a little cherry cola as well. Has a Rousseau-like precision in its delivery. Beautiful sweet berry fruit. Rounded and intense with floral fragrance- violets, roses. Done spiciness at the edges, cinnamon. Done dark plum and garrigue… herbal notes. Soulful and delicious. — 4 months ago

La Turque Côte-Rôtie Syrah 1989

Night 1 of WineBoyz Wineapalooza. Tasted blind. Dark red, almost opaque. High-pitched nose with notes of red maraschino cherries, dark fruit, some earth, some mahogany. Big core of fruit, seems to be from a warm vintage and has some age. Lots of debate about this wine. One person thinks it's Italian, another thinks it might be Syrah. I'm in Burgundy and guess 90 Ponsot CdlR. Interesting when the reveal happens. Bottle is a leaker, looked a bit beat up. I had a bottle of this two weeks ago which was more inspiring and in much better condition. Still, very nice… — 3 years ago

Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1990

Fourth of four 90 Ponsot bottles served blind for the boyz. A rather rare bottle I’ve learned since Ponsot stopped making it in 93. Tawny color, translucent. High-pitched nose. Notes of bing cherries, flowers, Asian spice, plums and some meaty thing like beef jerky. Linear and angular in this mouth feel. Great balance of fruit and structure. Tannins fully integrated.
