Mâcon La Roche-Vineuse Vieilles Vignes Chardonnay 2020

2024/9. While it doesn’t quite have the scale or depth of the more prestigious appellations, all the elements are here - lemon confit, cream, stone, a little toast — 2 months ago

Sierra Mar Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

Excellent…deep dark inky tannic Pinot….reminiscent of a Morgon Beaujolais…may have been a fruit bomb once but after 10 years mellowed yet still full of fruit - more blackberry than cherry. Would have been perfect T-giving wine. Goes without saying J preferred the fresher, cherrier SLB last night — 2 years ago

Les Cras Macon La Roche-Vineuse Chardonnay 2021

2024/8/27. Merlin’s Cras is known (or at least noted by Jasper Morris) as being long-lived, and I’ve enjoyed bottles at 10 years. (I’d like to try older vintages…) But this is lovely now as well - perhaps it’s the vintage, but there’s a focus reminiscent of Chablis paired with Southern richness. Cool lemon, stone and custard on the nose, acid, mineral and fruity body in balance on the palate. — 3 months ago

Vieilles Vignes Mâcon La Roche-Vineuse Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2019 Mâcon La Roche Vineuse Vieilles Vignes is completely barrel fermented; however, since ‘03 Merlin has utilised less new oak, currently using around 10-15%. The 2019 is well-defined on the nose with hints of white flowers and orange blossom. The palate is quite spicy and peppery, a powerful Mâcon with just a light touch of honey towards the finish. Very fine. (Neal Martin, Vinous, November 2021)
