Faugères Carignan Blend 2005

Tis the season for soul warming Languedoc reds. This was the basic faugeres, carignane/Grenache/cinsault blend. Soft and mellow, black cherry fruit has maybe dried out a little, slightly brown even, but still there, plus olives, herbs, some subtle brett. Is it more fun than a Barral of monkeys? Not quite but a nice drink — a month ago

Vendanges Tardives Gewürztraminer 2007

Apparently, Grwuurz is not my cuppa. Too heavyhanded. Luckily this demi-bouteille showed a lot better than the one I had a couple of years ago. — 5 months ago

Zinnkoepflé Alsace Grand Cru Gewürztraminer 2016

In a lovely spot now, aromatics on point—beeswax, pumpkin spice, hint of petrol. Palate is refreshing & well-structured. Beautiful & dry, lovely seeing this evolve after a decant. — 7 months ago

Pierre Léon Yamhill-Carlton Pinot Noir 2015

Nose was super-candied cherry right out the gate and then got a little shyer with air. The cherry got a bit deeper and sultry, accompanied by a gorgeous and increasing moist gravelly earthiness and a bit of spice. Not heavy, but surprisingly extracted in the mouth, with a lot of tannin. Very savory and long, with a growing bitter note in the finish. Better with food than a solo sipper. — 2 months ago

Léon Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

Ahhh.... Treating myself to this Barolo on a cool and breezy evening in Brooklyn after Tropical Storm Fay washed away the sticky hot July humidity. I usually save Barolos for the fall, but right now the bright red fruits and soft tannins are echoing sour cherry season. Delicious. — 6 months ago
