Mon Chou #6 Camusi Vineyard Red Blend 2015

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days and consistent throughout. The 2015 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core and some slight rim variation. Medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and beginning to show, some secondary characteristics with a combination of tart, ripe and desiccated, black and red fruits: brambles, cassis, green bell pepper, pipe tobacco, leather, cocoa, organic earth and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The texture is that of a velvet glove. The finish is long and satisfying. Years ago, I cut my teeth on the wines of Ray and Nancy Coursen, especially their Elyse label while their Jacob Franklin label remained elusive to me. It’s clear there is similar DNA. This is a delicious, giving wine that is squarely in its drinking window. Drink now through 2030. — 23 days ago

@Jay Kline Very much enjoyed the JF petite sirah’s. As you would expect big wines but they had balance and complexity. Drank them way to early 🥺

@Ira Schwartz while I can’t speak for the JF Petite Sirah’s, I drank a ton of the Elyse PS’s and agree: big but balanced and beautiful. Age-worthy too.

Ladoix Pinot Noir 2018

On the nose, breeding stands out on notes of sweet tobacco, cedar. The mouth is fresh, supple, simple but charming. The aging is fine, and the sour red fruit is fresh and crunchy. Beautiful gourmet and affordable cuvée that does not lack finesse. To be tasted in two years.

@romo Yes. An appellation that remains at a reasonable price, which is generally not the case in Burgundy.

Les Toussaints Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2021

Much less interesting then the 2018. Which I reviewed just recently. This wine is elegant with mostly red fruit, cherry (but not in your face) hint of black currant, Plenty of acidity. Touch bark. Subdued crushed marble. May be i am tasting this too young. But over all this just does not strike me as a wine which challenges my palate. Compared to the 2021 E&M‘s from Baden. This is very blah. — 7 months ago

Hoffman Lane Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Another winespies purchase that has proven to be a good purchase. Strong spice, blackberry and slight cherry, cinnamon, and more. Medium tannins. A 7 year old wine that likely could age another 5 - 10 years. — 3 years ago

Beringer Vineyards

KVR Knights Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

In its third century of crafting wines from Napa, Beringer is guided by the partnership of Winemaster Emeritus Ed Sbragia and Winemaker Laurie Hook.
Founded by Jacob Beringer, Vineyard was established in 1876. Dark Ruby with rich aromas ripe dark fruits with sweet spice and cedar notes. On the palate blackberry and cherry with licorice and cacao, well integrated and balanced acidity. Soft tannins, great mouthfeel, long finish, aged well. Nice!!
