Tasting young and very extracted compared to the Delmas. A big boy with some rocks funk in the trunk and big structure. Fine oak. Needs time. — 7 years ago

We think something has changed at Montrose after the departure of Jean Bernard Delmas. Its not a bad wine by any means but the style is modern and extracted. At ten years this ie very drinkable and great quality but does not speak to its terroir as it used to. Hope its just one year… — a year ago

"One of the Finest Wines I have ever tasted from Tronquoy Lalande, this estate has been resurrected by the Bouygues family (also the owners of Chateau Montrose) capably assisted by Jean Bernard Delmas, the Wine Architect at Haut Brion between 1961 and 2003. A Blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and a whopping 10% Petit Verdot, the 2010 boasts a dense purple color as well as a big, sweet bouquet of violets, black currants, earth and subtle oak. Admirable concentration, sweet, well-integrated tannin and a surprisingly sexy, opulent mouthfeel result in a Gorgeous Wine to drink over the next 12-15+ years". The 2000 La Mission Haut-Brion is a vintage that I have not tasted for several years. At age 21, it has retained its youthful nose of vivid black cherries, wild strawberry and iodine, and shows less of the black olive tapenade element that I noticed in its youth. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins that belie that backbone of this La Mission. Beautifully balanced and quite peppery, with fine salinity, it is less sauvage than many other millennial Bordeaux, leading to a succulent, sensual finish. This is only just beginning to show what it is capable of. 13.4% alcohol. Tasted at the château with Jean-Philippe Delmas. (Neal Martin, Vinous, September 2021)

Great flavor at a killer price point. Slog. Acidity with Apple notes. — 6 years ago
100% Grenache. The wine name translates to "First Among Equals" Soft nose of florals, spice, blueberries, dark cherries, dark rich soils. The mouthfeel has soft and tannins are velvety. Medium body and tannins. Blueberries, dark cherries, strawberries and soft but deep, dark spice. Crushed rocks, good acidity and a beautifully, round elegant, lean finish. The aromatics on the nose of the Raza wines were amongst some of the best I've experienced...amazing florals! Billo who is part owner & Winemaker has an impressive resume. He last made Delmas wines before helping to start Raza. He just completed his "Masters of Wine;" which is not an easy task and there are less than 300 "Masters of Wine" in the world. Photos of; their tasting room and shots of their cellar. Raza is a small production producer at around 750 cases. — 9 years ago
