Blair Fox Cellars

The Dare Syrah 2011

Decided to crack this rare one, only 75 cases produced, since the winery opened the library today and offered up some more bottles. This Syrah is extremely big and complex, lots of tobacco, coffee, and earth up front but finishes in a lingering, soft, and ethereal manner. I believe this is the best vintage of The Dare to date and looking forward to seeing how this wine progresses over the next several years. — 22 days ago

Anam Cara

Nicholas Estate Vineyard Riesling 2013

Mineral, great acid, white peach, apple, quince, and a little petrol to round things out. Dare I say a touch of Pencil shavings and fleshy green plums? Wicked good! — 14 days ago

Rioja Tempranillo

Boom. This one has a nice flavor punch to it. Oak and smoke, but bright blackberries. Dare I say boysenberries, with a vanilla wrapper. — 2 months ago

Bruno Giacosa

Villero di Castiglione Falletto Barolo Nebbiolo 1996

This bottle was outstanding. Opened with a rusty hue but 4 hours in the decanter and the color came back ruby red and the classic Nebbiolo notes were abounding. Dare I say it was even fresh at times. This ethereal wine has more years ahead. But it was outstanding tonight. An absolute stunner. — 2 months ago

Thick as Thieves

Levings Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2017

First decent sunshine in the garden
Weekend is on early this week
Got delivered a 6 pack split between 2017 and 2016 yesterday
This '17 is delicious!!
It reminds me a lot of a sangiovese from Radda or Castelnuovo Berardenga or even a northern brunello. Vibrant, mineral, but supported by strong shoulders that you can't notice much at this stage. Neat and precise are the violet, tobacco and licorice.
Spices, leather and cola. The fruit is between a blood orange and a raspberry. I dare to say it recalls a Soldera's Brunello. Long, young and enjoyable from now and many years ahead.

@Ceccherini Cristiano interesting comparisons. I don’t often read about Pinot’s characteristics in this way. If this is that close of a comparison to two very different varietals then, I may have to reorganize my cellar better so that I don’t get Brunello’s and Pinot mixed up.

@Rob Brobst III 😄😄
Mind though I didn't compared sangovese and pinot, but specific sangiovese from specific areas with this specific pinot. Many producers in Tuscany are known to be producing wines that resemble a Burgundy, but the play in your mouth is slightly different. Instead of fascinate you with the array of scents, smooth touch and a never ending elegant after-taste some wines IMO they deliver a juiciness when they enter and then in the mid palate they explode and spread everywhere with a long powerful after-taste. Well I reckon this T&T pinot noir had that factor that I find in many Tuscan wines, specifically in sangiovese from Radda, Castelnuovo(sometines) and Montosoli(northern area of Montalcino); other wines are like that(Kurni, Habemus...) but having ancestors from the Chianti area shifts me easily on that vision.
I don't think you need to move anything around in your cellar😄, but you got curious on what you would have done in regards🤗. Cheers mate!🙏

Poached pear, apricot and dare I say, petroleum? A complex treat from down under. — 10 days ago

Has a settle sweet undertones. It had some velvety and hits of apricot. It's not bad but nothing special.

Monte Rio Cellars

Skull Petite Sirah Blend

Delicious and fresh. Nice medium tannin that integrates into the fruit. Dare I say, crunchy? (Also, like all monte rio, great qpr) — 2 months ago

White Pressed Pinot Noir 2024

Very interesting wine. It starts off with a whisper of jam, dare I say raspberry. But then hits you with acid and has a super juicy mouthfeel. Finishes dry with some lingering berry notes. Love this — 3 months ago
