Such a different Priorat from the others I have been drinking. Seemed much denser in every aspect of the wine. Different and enjoyable. — 6 days ago

Tomàs Cusiné

Vilosell Costers del Segre Tempranillo Blend 2017

Love this Spanish blend. First tried in Barcelona but then found some bottles here in Dallas! Easy to drink, nice dark fruits. Medium body. Smooth tannins. Not sure I can find it at home anymore. Will have to return to Barcelona! — 4 months ago

Costers del Priorat

Blanc De Pissarres Garnatxa Blanca Macabeu Pedro Ximenez 2021

Tainted gold color. Strong floral, borderline pungent nose; little bit of desert rain in there. The palate is bone dry, medium alcohol, medium acidity, full bodied; carries lots of umami, white mushroom, unctuous, tannins, and a strong finish. Paired with salmon sashimi with olive oil and salicornia. Pairing was delightful, wine all on its own will develop your character. Cheers. — a month ago

Mas Doix

Doix Costers de Vinyes Velles Priorat Carignan - Grenache Blend 2008

Mid to dark Ruby in colour. Black and Red fruits - aromatics of blackberry, note of raspberry, earthy and sandy notes. A medium to full bodied palate - rich and enduring. Costers de Vinyes Vielles comes from the company’s oldest vines. A blend of 110 year old Carinena (55%) and 90 year old Garnacha (45%). Aged for 16 months in French oak. One of the 1001 Wines. 14.5% ABV. Love Priorat wines after our visit in 2022. — 10 months ago

Certainly a better region than the attention it gets/deserves on the world stage.

@David T Agreed. I would like to see other Spanish districts like Rioja and Galicia. Also into Portugal.

Petit Pissarres Produccio Limitada Priorat Grenache Samsó 2021

It’s being a while since I’ve pounded a Priorat and Pissarres delivered — the right balance of raspberry, blueberry and black slate. Pure, intense fruit and earth unadulterated by new oak. Great pairing with Gochujang (other favorite pairings include Pinot Gris Ramato or Bedrock Evanghelo Zin). — 3 months ago

R. López de Heredia

Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2010

Such is the way of life at López de Heredia, the 2010 Reserva was only released to the market last year, while most bodegas are currently extolling the virtues of their 2019s. Well, as a fan of Viña Tondonia, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the 2010, fabled year that it is, having enjoyed many a superb wine from other producers in this vintage.

Decanted for four hours, this wine is effusive from the glass, with a strikingly darker, richer aromatic profile compared to vintages such as 2007 and 2001, and more in line with 2008 - but better still. The oak provides a generous chocolate- and vanilla-laced bouquet that also has blackcurrants, blueberries, cranberries and kirsch, and bouquet garni. The palate is, predictably, very austere at this primal stage, but again has a richer, more rounded mouthfeel to prior vintages that is simply wonderful. Needless to say, this is a benchmark wine for the region and will age rather well, and what a wine it will be in decades to come.
