St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

Dusty cherry and dense Christmas pudding nose features baked blueberry and dried red currants with blue spruce, Connecticut cigar wrap, sunflower, marigold and tea. There is ample black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg and lacquered oak. Silky smooth and incredibly well-integrated layers of aforementioned spices with a surprisingly green tobacco note. Cedar and dried blackberry atop baked raspberry and peppercorn tart. Simply delicious and unwaveringly structured.

Nice evening entry point. Nothing extravagant, but nice nonetheless. Subtle and understated. Notes of ginger and brioche on the nose and palate. Hints of green pea shoots come along for the ride. Soft acidity and moderate sweetness complete what is a nice presentation. — 3 days ago

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

This is my 2nd '18 from Saint Emilion tonight, the first I didn't rate... Selection was a 91 ... Anyway, this one well integrates the front forward red, blue and black fruit. Equally, it is a bomb of the combo of the 3, but with a slight leaning towards the blue berries. Nice balance with medium plus alcohol and medium tannins. Medium minus acidity. It's a very well balanced wine. I would like another shot at this one as it may be a notch or two higher.

Single Vineyard Napa Valley Saint Laurent 2019

Tried this as I happened to walk past a wine bar “Local & Vine” in NYC and met wine reps. Deep Ruby with aromas of red fruits, cedar and big floral and violet notes, aged in French oak. On the palate flavors of blackberry and ripe black cherry with notes of cacao, vanilla and pronounced dried floral herbs. Fine rich tannins, long finish ending with fruit, cacao, spice and floral notes. Nice but a bit too floral right now, needs more time in the bottle. — 2 days ago

Le Dôme Saint-Emilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

I’ve been a little bit on a Bordeaux thing recently, and wanted to pop this for a weekend dinner. It’s really nice. Inviting nose draws you in with sweet dark berry fruit, a bit of graphite and gravel, and some sweet vanillin. So soft, mouthfilling, yet not heavy. Flavors are clingy and have a dense savory streak, but there is nice fruit still underneath. Still some tannin present. No rush on this but it’s really nice now. — 10 days ago

I drink a lot of White Rhone and that’s been one of my favorite things about the past 9+ years of Fass Selections. I didn’t before and now I realize that I have a passion for them. Nice to find a new wine category late in your wine drinking life one loves. Anyway this is beautiful. Nose is ripe yellow fruits, beeswax, gorgeous compactness and minerals. It’s really refined as well. Palate is ripe, unctuous and juicy but I’ll admit off the bat it’s showing it’s alcohol but it will integrate. It’s only 13% but that’s why you let white Rhone breathe. For the alcohol to integrate. Luscious and juicy. Deep but I’ll be back for when it’s integrated. It’s a solid 9.0 now but the finish, texture and depth suggest this will be wonderful in an hour.

9.0 to 9.2. Alcohol almost fully integrated in 10 minutes. Custardy now. Great length and terrific minerals.

3rd wine of the night... This one excels. Nice muddled black and red fruit on the nose with tertiary notes of camphor, oil... But on the palate the fruits reemerge. Quite interesting... Cranberry, raspberry, and blackberry... All stewed. So enjoyable, medium plus body, medium alcohol, medium soft tannins with some drying, medium minus acidity. Spherical... For me, this hits everything. Definitely, top of my scale.

2018 vintage. Settling down a little bit since last visit 10.24.21. Medium/medium-heavy body. Starts off Napa, finishes Right bank. Velveteen and hazelnut nose. Slacker tannic presence. Still fairly flashy yet substantial-esp for the price. Tremendous value and drinking slightly better than nearly seven months ago. — 10 days ago

This is all about cassis. The tannins aren't anywhere near integrated but the potential to move to 93 or 94 is there. A classic cellar defender with the potential for more.
