Chappellet

Mountain Cuvée Proprietor's Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2022

Blend of Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot & Malbec. Deep Ruby, purple edges, youthful aromas of black fruit, spices, floral and flinty notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry and black cherry with some vanilla and tobacco and herbal notes. Vivid acidity, firm tight tannins with long finish ending with a vibrant character, a bit young, should benefit from bottle aging. — a month ago

Solid as always. Higher alcohol and wood than other bottles. Might need a decant as I PnP’d. Started off great with dark cherries and depth, but became astringent over time. — 4 days ago

Alexander Valley Vineyards

Cyrus Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2005

I was given the responsibility of opening and serving this bottle to the guests of a 40th birthday celebration. From double-magnum. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2005 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and signs of significant sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous, with notes of ripe and slightly desiccated fruit: cassis, blackberry, black plum, tobacco, leather, Pablano pepper, vanilla, earth, and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin (that is mostly integrated) and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This wine, from this format is in a really lovely spot. Drink now through 2035. — a month ago

Too cool.

Opus One

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1982

Decanted prior to service; enjoyed over the course of several hours. This bottle of the 1982 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core and some rim variation; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears and signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with a mix of tart, ripe and dried, mostly black fruits: cassis, blackberries, tobacco, dried flowers, grilled Poblano, leather, dry gravelly earth, and fine warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. One of the earliest vintages of Opus One, this is showing really well at the moment. Drink now through 2042. — 5 days ago
