Château D'issan

Château d'Issan

Margaux Cabernet Sauvignon - Merlot Blend 2012

I know that 2012 wasn’t a perfect year but this still underperformed. Have a lot of nostalgia for D’Issan after Emmanuel Cruse (the proprietor) oversaw the Bordeaux tasting competition where my wife and I met. Very little fruit on the mid palate. Bit thin on the finish. Definitely left bank - the nose is very nice. Good pairing with beef tenderloin slow roasted but still a smidge below what I hoped. — 3 months ago

Dominus Estate

Dominus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2004

Much brighter than the 2009 chateau d'issan that we had. Good amount of fruit but not a fruit bomb. Good, tasty. More complexities than the Dissan. That one is much more dark. — 6 years ago

Moulin D'Issan

Supérieur Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

This 90% Merlot is grown directly adjacent to the Margaux property of the chateau but is entitled only to Bordeaux Superieur appellation. It’s really good and eminently drinkable. Loads of ripe, deep plummet fruit competes with cedar and rich, minerally earthy notes. In the mouth, it’s rich but not as ponderous as many ‘18s. For a weeknight-priced Bordeaux, wow! — 4 months ago

Very good price to quality ratio for a Bordeaux. Reserved fruit, some earth, opened up nicely. — 5 years ago

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Beautiful wine! 2009 Margaux from Château D'Issan ...even more enjoyable knowing that we have actually visited and toured the 15th century Château....one of the few actually surrounded by a moat!

Will post tasting notes soon, but this bottle opened up beautifully. 😀🍷🇫🇷

Blason d'Issan Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

If I put this in a blind red tasting, I’m pretty sure that many would not call Bordeaux. Rarely do I call perfectly ripe fruit. This 05 fruit is perfectly ripe. I would say this 05 is at its peak it is so good but it truly isn’t. This D’Issan has 12-15 years left of good drinking with a 5 year slide after. 2005 Bordeaux’s are drinking exceptionally as it was perceived when they were birthed. Three hour decant.

The wine glides effortlessly & beautifully over the palate. It is delicious. Ripe, floral, not quite candied fruits of; blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherry kirsch, black plum, strawberries & blue fruits. Mid berry cola/licorice, black tea, softened lead pencil, dry crushed rocks, dry river stone, limestone, mostly fresh tobacco, firecracker, flinty spices, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, just moist, dark turned earth, drying clay, volcanic stones & ash, loaminess, dry to slightly fresh mixed herbs, sandstone, sandalwood, some black pepper, red, purple, dark, blue florals framed in violets, Hawaii waterfall acidity with a well polished, balanced, nicely tensioned & structured finish that lasts minutes. Wire to wire outstanding.

It is interesting reading the multiple RP reviews after my notes…from 90-92 young by Neil Martin to his 94 later & then Parker himself in 2015 a 96. Not surprising that time in bottle is constant evolution and worth the wait in proper storage. @D&SLounge

Not the best vintage for the left bank, but this wine was very well balanced with refined tannins....lovely earthly and rich dark plum and black fruit notes. A very enjoyable Haut-Medoc wine from Château D'Issan. — 6 years ago
