On the nose, a faint cherry... On the palate, firm Italian plum, firm red cherry... Very bright up front... Above medium acidity... The finish is again felt primarily up front... Overall, not overly complex, but quite an appealing style. — 3 years ago

Nose not giving much initially - just an earthy note - fairly contained. Probably opened a little young? The next night it showed red fruited aromatics of raspberry and strawberry. Very fine on the palate and quite delicious. The winemaker and owner Tom Carson with his French wife, Nadege, just won Viticulturalist of the year 2 days ago in the Halliday Wine Awards. They also import a range of Burgundies. In his “spare time “ Tom is also the winemaker at the highly regarded Yabby Lake. — 4 years ago
An old standard in our household. Velvety smooth, rich juicy berries. Glad we can purchase Freakshow even at Costco in TX and have a solid, boozy Cab at the ready. — 5 years ago

Very very good red wine! Smooth and robust flavor — 5 years ago
Gorgeous. Thought we'd waited too long to open this 2008, but it's amazing. Ripe cherries, a touch of port, and a little forest floor. Really special. — 6 years ago
Aged and in a magnum. What a fancy bottle. Joy to try this. Hint of rust red on the edge of the color. Nose is cherry cordial and herbs. Sage, marjoram, fresh wood. Flavors are lovely. Still has zip. Herbal. Lush. Complex. This is lovely aged Syrah. Has a bit of mystery and is nicely aged. — 6 months ago
Medium ruby in color; black cherries, plums, and cedar on the nose; medium plus acidity; medium tannins, but smooth; tastes like blackberries, cherries, and a hint of bell pepper witha long finish. Not as complex as I would like, but pretty good. — 3 years ago
Really lovely. Drinking the 2007 on NYE 2023 and it's still beautiful. Bing cherry and baking spice on the nose, with more cherry, cranberry, tobacco, forest floor on the palate. Surprisingly bright for 15 years old. A great buy from K&L from a private collection. — 3 years ago
Love the dried fruit (Black Current and fig ) to go along with blueberry. The wine exhibits both power and finesse and has a very pleasant lingering finish — 4 years ago
Planted in 1886 and currently under the stewardship of the Phillips family. Popped and poured; consumed over two days. The 2019 Cinsault currently pours a bright, brilliant ruby with a translucent core. Medium viscosity. Whoa…this wine is fresh and juicy! Flavors of Blackberry Izzy, bruised apple, Clementine mandarins, boozy pineapple, and Laughy Taffy. Medium tannin with medium, maybe medium + acid. A really pretty wine and quite delicious. This is a fabulous summer red! I found this to be even more enjoyable the second day so a little patience will be rewarded. 8 barrels produced. — 5 years ago
Mid Ruby in colour. Red fruits of cherry and strawberry with a bit of whole bunch influence on the nose. The palate showing savoury red fruits but also a little sweetness. Certainly a good future in front of it - I should try the next one in 1 to 2 years time. Tom Carson has probably never made a bad wine in his life and he has a great terroir to work with when he is not in demand for judging at Royal Shows. Tasted another bottle 65 weeks later on 24th July 2022. Quite red cherry on the nose and palate. Sooty notes from whole bunch in the ferment. The perfect balance between sweet and savoury. — 5 years ago
Made by Tom Carson (chief winemaker at Yabby Lake) as his side project. 2013 and 2014 (the latter being Halliday’s wine of the year) of this wine were awarded Australia wide Trophies and Tom says this 2015 is just as good. Sweet red fruits (mulberry) with heaps of spice - Barb said peppery notes. A fabulous wine with impeccable balance- a perfect match with the free range chicken dish that Barb created. 98 points from James Halliday. Tom Carson for the last few years has been Chief Judge of the Royal Queensland Wine Show. His expertise shows in his winemaking. — 8 months ago

Let it breathe, it definitely gets better (not that it was bad). — 3 years ago

Super smooth and dark zin at an amazing price at TJs. Lots of dark berries, plum, touch of smoke and dark chocolate. Even better the next day. At TJs Was able to get a little more but now it’s gone. — 5 years ago
Dark and fruity from my favourite region. We don’t get many varieties from MD Winery in Canada and this one tops what we get. Fruit forward and a solid finish. Will be adding a case or two to my cellar. Yup. It has legs and it worth the buy. — 6 years ago
Bangerang. Lotsa personality. Beautiful representation of the region. #buybuybuy — 6 years ago
