2020 vintage. From the FLB offerings. Did the slinky decant (back and forth in the same two decanters-I rarely have that kind of time) so the wine got “transported” from the original bottle into a decanter for a 8x decant. Tasted after one hour. Wine always has obvious pedigree but usually comes hell-bent for oak. Plenty of oak in the nose upon the initial open but the decanter to decanter back and forth minimized it. Got past the fearsome front line and into the secondary (flavors). Black olive, dustiness, cedar, hint of beefiness. Zero rush to crush but needs plenty of air. Another excellent 2020 Napa red. Not that many made/survived but the private, firefighting force occasionally pays out bigg dividends, capital gains and realized profits. 8.7.26. — a month ago

100% Petite Sirah. Starts with dark ripe fruit including blackberries, blueberry, raspberry, and cedar and forest notes with semisweet chocolate and creamy finish. Very age able with hints of tannins that set up the structure of the wine. — 2 months ago

Dark ruby/ purple in color with a reddish rim.

Fruity nose of black fruits with cedar, chocolates, spices, herbs and light earth.

Full-bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate and very fruity with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, toast, light vanilla, dark chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices, light earth, black tea and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious 8 year old Cabernet based blend from Napa Valley. Fruit forward with nice complexity. Showing a soft mouthfeel, elegant and rich.

Good right out of the bottle, and better with some air time.

Drinking at its peak now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food.

A blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 12% Sangiovese. Aged in (90% new) French Oak barrels for 20 months.

Perfectly stored and the cork was immaculate. In terms of color and smell/taste, this has held up well. However, it is on the down-slide. Additionally, I just have never been blown away by Montelena estate red. Always seem to not live up to expectations. I love their whites. — 23 days ago

Decant and pour. An amazing still dark garnet with bricking. On the nose: subtle notes of dark fruit, worn leather, herbaceous, pencil shavings, mint. Taste: savory, silky, elegant wine with some dried cherry/red plum, currants, tobacco, spice, earth, coffee grounds and a medium plus finish. YUM!!! The epitome of smooth and majestic.
Not easy to find on the secondary market, but worth securing a bottle at the right price. Notes of mocha and espresso on the nose and mid-palate segue to polished tannins and moderate acidity. The capstone is a nice balanced weight and mouthfeel. Never disappointed with this botting. — 8 months ago
