2015 vintage. Kosher version. Owned by Belgian Maurice Velghe. 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Slightly rustic but well-done with Saint-Estèphe typicity. — 4 years ago
This Pa brewery is rocking my world. Close my eyes and taste this, and I drift back to my time when I lived in Waterloo, Brussels. Label says 9.5% abv, but it’s tucked in nicely. Woody notes on the palate, with cardamom, cloves and licorice. Heart-warming as it slips down the hatch. Well done! — 7 years ago
Grippy Belgian candy sugars, loads of tannin, mellow sweet balance with nice layers, golden raisin, too much tannin and wood, bourbon, the smell takes in alc, actually goes from 9.0 to 9.3, the tannins blend in once it opens even more and has cinnamon, very clean but boring oddly in some ways — 9 years ago
Magnum 2010. Great wine from these Belgian owners! — 9 years ago
Beautiful and proof that high alc. beer with flavor can also be crisp and dry. Absolutely dangerous on a sunny day. This beer will also age very well for the next 10-12. — a year ago
2018 vintage. Owned by Belgian Justin Onclin, consulted by Hubert de Boüard. A spectacular effort. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Classy nose with ripe red fruit, flowers and subtle cedar wood. Concentrated and very elegant, impressive depth, beautifully balanced with perfectly integrated alcohol (abv. 15 %) and a knock-out finish. Definitely up to Premier Grand Cru level. Highly recommended. — 5 years ago
Nice Amber from Michigan. Mid bodied, well balanced. Clean smoky and mildly yeasty finish. — 7 years ago
Vintage 2015 / from magnum / warm, cherries, a hint of chocolate, developes well! Combined with a Belgian made menu with courgette, tomatos, mozarella and tomato filled meatballs with pesto by @Simon Lemmens — 8 years ago
Fantastic flavoured Belgian beer. Sweet with vanilla taste. — 9 years ago
Hipping is exotically fruity, with some leesy reduction at this juncture; Pettenthal is the oddball, aged in barrique to draw out citrus fruit and roundness from a tight, mineral wine; Orbel is the complete package, a tannic and racy white showing equal parts fruit, floral, and Roterhang minerality. An interesting common thread through these wines is a distinctive herbal/spice character, which reminded me of a funky Belgian witbier or tripel, presumably attributable to ambient yeast populations and soil expression. — 9 years ago
2022 vintage. A relatively new estate ( first vintage 1972, and bought in 1993 by Belgian MD Gaëtan Lagneaux, who sadly passed away at the age of 50 in 2012). His son Adrien has directed the estate ever since, and I believe his father would have been proud of him tasting this 2022. I don't know the exact blend for this vintage, but the vineyard is planted with 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. A little less colour compared to Coutelin-Merville tasted alongside , but more refined in both nose and taste. Abv. 13,5 %.

Start of #tourdefrance 2019. Stage 1 starts in Belgium. Bright and refreshing Belgian Ale in a familiar CA IPA style. Nice little quaff of Chouffe. — 7 years ago
Huh?
Took me awhile to appreciate the nose...
There’s apricot, honey and a firm dosage of oak, of course.
But the odd yet interesting nuances of grilled carrots and parsnips, yellow curry-powder (‘kerrie’) and a yeasty kind of thing that reminds me of Belgian Triple Beer, took some time to grow on me.
On the palate this is more traditional, less surprising, yet very well composed. Rich, luscious, unctuous and dense. Maybe slightly lacking in varietal character, but that could be nitpicking-me — 8 years ago
Delicious! Floral, lilacs, some pronounced white pepper that is almost reminiscent of northern Rhone, vibrant acidity and zippy quality. Finish is like dragon fruit or a Belgian tripel. 7 years old and better than ever. — 9 years ago
Haven't had a chance to try this beer. But, come on, it's about the funniest beer name ever. — 10 years ago
