First bottle I’ve opened of this vintage. Ruby red, moderate pigment extraction, very good clarity. Strawberry and barrel notes in nose. Strawberry, cherry in mouth with good fruit length, good acid, delightfully light on the alcohol. Slight seed and skin tannins on finish, aftertaste. Light bodied. This was a big, rich, generous bottle of wine. Each sip was a mouth-filling cocktail of macerated red and black fruits with hints of vanilla and spice. Very supple! 39% Carignan, 26% Mataro, 17% Zinfandel, 11% Petite Sirah, 5% Alicante Bouchet, 2% Black Malvoisie. 5/18/22. — 7 months ago
Empty bottle shot? Yes, it was that good.
It’s too bad you can’t see the lovely transparent, but electric Fuschia color. Lots of time in contact with the skins — 12 hour maceration and lovingly foot tread prior to press, so drinks more like a light red than a white. There’s real Pinot fruit and Santa Cruz mountain character here: strawberries, rose hips, stones, fresh herbs, cool breezes blowing through the redwoods. Many layers. Rosé of the summer. — 6 hours ago
What a great wine. This field blend from a single block of the Evangelho vineyard is made up of Mataro, Zinfandel, and Carignan among others. It’s a dusty, deep purple in the glass with dark, subtle fruit in the nose. Full of dark fruit, a bit of berry it’s incredibly smooth and full bodied with enough twinge of acidity and mild tannins to give it great structure. Excellent. — 7 days ago
2018 vintage. Enveloping, deep French oak nose. Light-medium/medium body. Hammer drops of tangerine, lanolin, Persian lime and guava flavor wise. The 2017 vintage had a little more acidity and is/was showing fantastic but this vintage seems to have a little more “personality.” Obvs super-youthful and needs some space and time. If you can lay off it for a year or two, kudos. For the rest of us mere mortals, this is world-class Chardonnay at a seventh of the comparable French white burg pricing and half/a third of many of the high-end California Chard producers. QPR in spades. — 13 days ago
Another outstanding Clone 8. Fruity nose, nearly opaque purple, significant but well balanced tannins with nice mouthfeel, red fruit flavors of raspberry. — 8 days ago
