Battaglione Barbera d'Asti 2017

Ken Z

Drank 6/5/19. Very nice with Rigatoni Bolognese.

Scents of red cherry, leather, and a hint of earth. Bright red fruit flavors of red cherry and strawberry, backed by medium tannins. A touch of spice on the medium, red fruit filled finish.

Very nice for the price (around $15 at Costco).

Brooding. Took the next day for it to show off its fruit. Darkly pigmented with stewed aromas. Rare treat. — 20 days ago

La Bogliona Barbera d'Asti 2010

2010 has lots of acidities and lots of fruit still not fully merged with the structure, therefore it is still top heavy and slightly unbalanced. It still possesses the sense of authority, integrity and completeness all great wines have. — 10 days ago

Cà di Pian Barbera d'Asti 2015

Cibo Grille, Ft Myers, with Lee and Raul. Similar to a Pinot Noir. Acidic, complex, lighter. Would order again. — 9 days ago

Campolive Superiore Barbera d'Alba Barbera 2015

LP 3 from the Gurdjieff/ de Hartmann box set and a spectacular Barbera. The music is a collection of beautiful piano compositions based on the spiritual teachings of George Gurdjieff. The wine has all the juicy pleasure one expects from Barbera, but has plenty of structure as well. Tannins add some texture & the acidic lift adds complexity to the wine. I absolutely love Barbera, and this is a top level example. — 18 days ago

Costa di Bussia (Tenuta Arnulfo)

Costa di Bussia Barbera d'Alba 2016

Nice. 2016. Balanced and flavorful. Previously rated about the same. As with the Ruvei, another of the better Piedmont Barberas yet still affordable: medium bodied, rich color, light nose, gentle palate, smooth...balanced, dry but not too dry - enough fruit, enough tannins make this a great, pleasing wine for the not-tannic crowd and light-fruit crowd too. Buy again, decent value. — 8 days ago

Tre Vigne Barbera d'Asti 2016

From the depths of studying-Italy-is-hell I bring you Barbera-is-heaven. Seriously WHY are we not coveting all the (good) Barbera. This is the stuff and people still don’t know so the price is...oh wait, hush, don’t tell anyone! I’d like to keep buying it at these prices though it deserves far more. It goes down like flower-enchanted Pinot Noir that is unmistakably Italian. It just has that extra kick of sour and earth that alerts one from whence it came. It’s all vibrant red fruits and pickled things and maybe some balsamic and maybe all those things had a yacht party in oak. New and used. Like this wine’s soul. — 20 days ago

This one is singing now! Ripe fruits, tar, inky and game meat. Salty, mineral and fresh. I like the clean and focussed aftertaste. — 17 days ago

Barbera del Monferrato

Barbera monferrato, a brooding powerful wine. 15abv, but not quite noticeable. A Savio Soares selection. — 2 months ago
