Big grapey nose with uncommon depth for a Barbera. Spices. Minerals and gravel. Pulverized gravel that is. Gorgeous blackberry and red berry fruit. Palate is ethereal for a Barbera and so pure. Rich, yet fresh, darker fruits on the palate than on the nose. Textured and slippery. Great freshness and depth and really elegant and pure. This is showing out of its mind. Just stunned how great this is. So concentrated and fresh with just awesome depth. Really long and lovely velvety structure. — 3 days ago

This nose needs a lot of air to come hither!

Rustic - and classic morello cherries, tangerine,, a dab of tamarind. Some very light chamomile, amd answering Pinot noirs like acidity. Absolutely delicious!
I really like this producer.

Tre Vigne Barbera d'Asti 2019

N: black cherry, licorice, wild herbs, rose petals
P: black cherry, red plum skin, more herbs, a little white pepper, tobacco, rose petal, and sun dried tomato. The darker side of barbers with lots of acidity. Dusty tannins, not heavy, just enough to give a little grip on the finish.

Oh wow is what I said when I initially sniffed this. Huge Barbera fruit. Red and blue and black berries. Gorgeous spice. So fine and so nuanced. Just a tremendous nose. Shows the potential of 19. Wow, what balance, juiciness and purity. Perfect balance. Nice and grippy tannins that frame the fruit perfectly. Great concentration, depth and freshness. Such a great Barbera and also something I think will age for 5-7 years. — 3 days ago

Shake Ridge Ranch Amador County Barbera 2017

Rich, dark purple in the glass. Shy, reticent nose of dark pie cherry, and tobacco. Smooth, (perhaps too smooth) and ripe (perhaps too ripe)… definitely “New world” in style. I think perhaps Barbera needs a bit of roughness, wildness, primitiveness to balance the fruit. Still a nice accompaniment to hot Hawaiian pizza and late-summer heirloom salad. — 6 days ago
