Cantina Tomaso Gianolio

Superiore Barbera d'Alba 2015

Lyle Fass

Last bottle and haven’t had in over a year. Love this bottling. Gorgeous wet earth, tobacco, bright cherries, tar, leather. Terrific. Juicy, spicey, rich yet energetic. Red cherry fruit glides along the palate backed up by nice mineral and earthy sweetness and huge minerals. Delicious. Really pays to age some wines 2-3 years. — 2 days ago

Superiore Villaro Barbera d'Alba 2018

Gorgeous nose of dense, thick grapey, berry infused and very expressive Barbera fruit. Complex earth and mineral tones that are ethereal. What a nose. Tree bark and pulverized rocks. Palate is juicy with fine grained tannins and wonderful berry fruit. Juicy fruit and dense with good extract, sap and purity. Long. Sticks on the palate. Seems like it needs air but very promising. — 19 days ago

A good year, a fine wine with balance and context. Good value. Red berries, light fruit and body medium; palate perfect with discernible tannins and dryness - right for a Barbera d' Alba. There are better Barberas but this is right for red meats, strong cheeses. — 9 days ago

De Forville

Barbera d'Asti 2017

Bright plum hits the nose and grows along the way. Both undecanted as well as decanted- the De Forville Barbera d’ Asti is a robust red that is bursting with fruit as well as depth. This is a simple joy to the palate that has more to tell. I don’t think you can find a more enjoyable and juicy wine for the dollar than this. — 6 days ago

Gorgeous nose. Ripe berries, smoke, raspberry, some flowers and a dash of minerals and earth. Insane brightness yet also seems deep. Palate is fresh as a daisy with gorgeous berry and cherry fruit and terrific freshness and energy. Terrific velvet tannins and terrific finishing mineralIty. Very clean, linear and good. Terrifically juicy and gains body and weight as it opens up. — 19 days ago

Lots of dark red fruit, verging on a smidge of raisin. Quite forward and delicious. Draws you in with great mouthfeel and refreshing acid. Excellent quality for the price - just a fun one. — 3 days ago

Boschetto Vecchio Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2015

Super nose of black and sour cherry and a bit of hay too along with floral notes (violet) That's very good.
The palate is very well balanced with a bright cherry all along à very long and strong acid backbone, some width and a finish made of cherry and flowers. So good!

Cà di Pian Barbera d'Asti 2016

Structured and kind of serious for a Barbera. Lots of herbs and spices in addition to the expected bright fruit. Fairly tannic and acidic - much better on day 2. Good value. — 15 days ago
