Badia A Passignano Gran Selezione Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2001

Quite deep ruby , with a wide garnet rim, quite young looking. Dried herbs , smoked meat , red cherry, violets , liquorice and antique furniture polish notes . On the palate quite round and rich, sweet red fruits , with that herbal tinge , those liquorice and charcuterie notes also evident . This in fact still shows well a day later , still quite full and rich , with red plum and black cherry notes . Quite good acidity , with quite gritty tannins, balanced alcohol . Decent length . This is very good now though no rush , mature but will continue to show well for a while longer , from now over the next 5 years . Another T Wright Wine choice … see my De Fieuzal 1994 note — 2 months ago

Commune Di Nieve Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2017

N: Iron, sanguine, cherries, strawberries, bark, the forest.
P: Much much better than I thought it might be. Rainier cherries, bright acids, linear, medium weight body, nice slightly grippy finish.
Did this a disservice with a PnP before burgers…but wow.
Unfurling should be great.
Turns out, this is Starderi fruit.
As it airs, tar and rose come fore, more grip.
Thanks @garagiste

Borgo Badia

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2016

This is precise and nicely done for a bargain-priced Barbaresco. Nose, with air, shows very pure dark cherry fruit, a bit of rose petal, smoky crushed rock and gravel, and some spice notes. It’s concentrated, chiseled, and fairly full in the mouth. Loads of dried cherry and stone flavors. Significant but soft tannin, and good acids. Enjoyable now but will likely get better over the next several years. — 2 years ago

@Daniel Bloom - I did some investigation. The back label uses an alphanumeric code (which the Italian government assigns each winery) for the winery that bottled it: CN 9568. That is the same code that appears on Garagiste’s “Ca’ Rozzeria” private label for Barolo and Barbaresco offerings. Those offerings in the past have borne a cork stamped with the Icardi winery logo. So I’m betting “BorgoBadia” is a second or alternative label of Icardi.

Nice sleuthing, Tom. I've enjoyed a number of the Ca'Rozzeria Piedmont offers, though I would generally recognize them to be delicate and not particularly perfumed.
