Mid Ruby/crimson with cherry red flashes. Aromas of menthol, dusty, antique shop, black currant. An absolutely stunning palate - silken - totally balanced and confident in its structure - an aristocrat , up there with the best First Growths. 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot. 100% new French Oak which is now totally resolved. Quilceda Creek said at the time of release that the 2007 was probably the best to date. This was in the top handful of wines we have had this year and I can see why Robert Parker gave it 100 💯 points. — 3 years ago
Straw. Delicate nose of honeysuckle, hazelnuts, and iron filings. Pretty. A little butter. Palate is similar, understated, buttercream, nuts, flowers. And then pretty fantastic length. Really good but a lesser aristocrat. (My wine.) — 9 years ago
Dark ruby, semi-transparent, dusty cherries in turned Earth, bramble, pepper, flowery violets and exotic spices. Med bodied, impressive balance & bearing - this was regal, an aging Aristocrat that has seen the best days recently slipped by. Still w/reservoir of fruit juxtaposed w/secondary elements. A beaut — 2 years ago
No. 3 in the Gevrey Chambertin lineup and it ended up being probably the Jewel in the Crown - Rousseau’s Le Chambertin. But remember, tasted blind. In previous years I have often picked this in the bracket but not this year although other Burgundy nuts present did. Ripe red fruits on nose and palate but not as full bodied to my palate as usual although the length and persistence were off the charts. Medium plus to profound intensity. An aristocrat of a wine. 2/3 rds of the fruit lost due to frost for this cuvée in this year so it will be scarcer than usual. 100% new oak - largely hidden by the quality of the fruit. — 5 years ago
Everything I could possibly want it to be at this age. Damsons and blackcurrant, meat, smoke, earth. Depth, power, complexity. Packs a huge punch (I laughed when I first put my nose in it) yet stays dainty and elegant. A hippo in a tutu doing a startlingly good pirouette, a wild animal and an aristocrat. Am almost frightened by how good this will be when fully mature. — 9 years ago
Mid to deep crimson with a touch of purple. A lovely red fruited perfume which will improve In years to come. Still a little contained on the palate with wonderful potential. Mt Mary is an aristocrat of the Yarra Valley covering several wine styles - all of them brilliant. Covering Cabernets (probably the flagship), Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This will drink well through to the latter part of this decade. Postscript: Received 99 points from James Halliday who is a long time Burgundy nut and has drunk more than his fair share of Grand Cru Burgundy — 2 years ago
Pale Gold with persistent fine bead. Notes of freshly baked apple crumble which proceeded to gain complexity with air. On the palate rich and sweet with ripe apple/ citrus flavours and an underlying chalky powdery dryness. Sprightly acidity. Overall - an aristocrat , being delicate refined restrained and persistent. Celebrating a good sale! A great cuvée from an excellent vintage. Will live for ages. — 7 years ago
OK so it was in slight decline but it was still an Aristocrat — 9 years ago
