Beautiful winery set way back outside of Angwin, Outpost had been winning me over as another Howell Mountain favorite. The red rocky soil creating rich, concentrated, deeply flavorful wines. This was my first Grenache from Outpost, and like their other wines, this one was memorable. 100% varietal, like all their wines, this one is spicy, racy and fun to drink. This is one of the only two wines (Zinfandel being the other) that are not sold out from the recently released 2014 vintage. This speaks to the quiet cult-like following they they seem to have. Consider me part of the cult!! — 8 years ago
Rim to rim color density. Red and black cherries poke through cedar and sweet tobacco on the nose with dark chocolate chunks, plum, prune and date, toasted sesame, cinnamon, rose petal, and cardamom. Chewy tannins that roll satin-smooth initially, then cassis, black currant and licorice flip the script. Graphite and blackberry frame dark chocolate and mocha-tobacco, oak and black bread.

Dark cherry with a spicy complexity and a nice Cabernet ending. A very good Merlot from Howell Mtn near Angwin. — 4 years ago
Probably would have guessed a cab franc - quite vegetal and green peppery. Not a jammy overextracted cab at all. Quite nice. — 7 years ago
Tonight I am drinking a beautiful cab from Napa, Double Diamond Bomber X 2010. Yes 2010! Schrader Cellars in Angwin CA has done a great job with this wine. The cork took some effort to remove but it had a perfect absorption line. The color is midnight black with a hint of deep purple on the surface. The legs seem to last forever - a full 10 seconds. There is hints of dark Cherry and blackberry on the nose. No alcohol hints at all. The initial flavor is silky dark chocolate and blackberry with a hint of cedar and spice on the tongue. The finish is light with a slight tingle on the tip of the tongue. Not a heavy wine but not as light as a pinot. There is a small hint of sour grapes on the aftertaste - the only drawback. Overall, I love this wine. Good job!
