Opened up after a few hour decant, but still needed a marbled steak for balance. Deep dark blackberry pie, tobacco, evergreen needles, and uplifted cranberry. Well balanced with great purity of fruit and persistent length. American oak flavors surround both red and black forest berries. Still very youthful... definitely decant or cellar. — 9 days ago
Bon vin de semaine! L’élevage est encore un peu trop présent pour se mériter un 9/10. — 12 days ago
A study of Spain - both textbook and experiential 🤓☺️ I mean, wine not?
As a ‘Gran Reserva’ red wine in Spain, made with Tempranillo and Graciano grapes, this wine must be aged for a minimum of 18 months in oak and 60 months total before release. There are even more stringent requirements in Rioja.
This producer aged this wine for 2 years in American and French oak casks followed by at least 3 years in the bodega’s cellar. Thanks to this, I am experiencing lots of deliciously toasty, cedar, vanilla, and baking-spice notes on the nose and palate. This is a full-bodied wine with good structure and pronounced blackberry, black cherry, and cassis aromas.

Nice example of a restrained, balanced Malbec. Good tension between fruit notes of blackberries , blueberries, lavender, and savory notes of cocoa and tobacco. Medium-bodied and medium alcohol without being over extracted and over oaked. — 19 days ago
Outstanding. Even better on day2. Best of new and old Rioja. — 11 days ago
