This afternoon I have opened the 2015 Soljans Estate Barrique Reserve Marlborough Pinot Noir.
On the nose I am able to get ripe cherry, strawberry jam, cola, ckove, mushroom, some funk, wet leaves and forest floor.
On the palate there is ripe cherry, raspberry, cranberry, plum, clove, mushroom and an earthy component.
This wine is medium bodied with medium acidity and medium sandy tannins with a long earthy finish. I hope everyone's weekend went well and are doing well? We look forward to a wonderful week ahead and as always please stay healthy and safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — a day ago

On this Sunday night I have opened the 2016 Soljans Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
On the nose the aromatics are very compelling explosive with notes of lime, papaya, guava, honeydew melon, orange, passionfruit and minerals.
On the palate there are citrus notes, lemon-lime, nectarine, asian pear, melon, white peach and minerals.
This wine is nicely complex that is medium bodied with a oily saline mouthfeel that has medium acidity that moves nicely into a long clean citrus mineral finish. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend staying safe and healthy? We look forward to the week doing the same. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 8 days ago
Pale lemon with aromas of stone fruits with light wafts of orange blossom and spice, spent 15 months on new French oak. On the palate rich ripe apple and pear with a touch of zesty citrus fruits, crisp, with toasty vanilla notes. Nice mouthfeel, vivid acidity, medium+ finish ending with citrus mineral spice character. — 16 days ago
Ripe red fruits with cherry to the fore. Also spice and a hint of ginger - smoky. A light to medium bodied palate finishing with ultra fine grained tannins. To be honest not as impressive as I was expecting. This wine seems to between youthful exuberance but not yet gaining complexity. I did have one a few years ago brought by a friend which was delicious. Try the next in a year or so. — 11 days ago
#garnachatintorera #alicantebouschet I’m stoked because I tasted it blind and thought this is Tintorera! And I was right. Deep color. With Tintorera I’m starting to understand the vibe. It’s Syrah color and aromas (savoury, spicy and peppery) with the richness and juiciness of Garnacha Tinta. This is a Basque winery that I believe just buys bulk and commercializes their wines, or at least this series of wines. More or less 6€ a bottle in #Spain its a killer deal of a wine. I personally am not a fan of cartoon like labels. — 17 days ago
I might have mentioned this in a previous Felton Road post. If you haven’t tried this producer and you love White Burgundy, Burgundy & Ca Pinot, you owe to yourself to find a bottle(s). The fruit Nigel and his team produce is top shelf & some of the best acidity I’ve had. This is better than most more expensive CA Pinots & Burgundies I’ve had & their offering’s are in the $50-$65 range.
I love warm day & cool night Pinots. This is the climate of Central Otago. Their fruits are nicely ripe with acidity for days.
The mouthfeel is glorious, sexy and elegant. The blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, raspberries and strawberries really sing. This 16 is young & I’d hold it another 3-5 years for better things. Think it hits 95-96 at that point. This still shows some stronger spice & cinnamon stick at this age. Dark soils, underbrush, some savory meats, a dash of herbaceousness, tree bark dipped in sap, mixed mid fruit cola. clove, some vanillin with amazing, bright florals that are dark, fresh; red, blue, purple set in violets. Perfect acidity and an elegant, ruby, well balanced, smartly polished finish that sings on the palate for minutes.
Photos of; the view from their property in April 2017 which, is their fall, outside fermentation tank, my walking the property with owner Nigel Greening and my wife enjoying her walk around the property. — 15 days ago
