Over the weekend I opened the 2018 Château Pgélan Ségur Saint-Estèphe Left Bank Bordeaux. A blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Merlot.
On the nose was very expressive and floral, black cherry, blackberry, fig, black currant, licorice, creamy chocolate, iron, violets and earth.
On the palate was black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, licorice, spice, minerality, light oak, herbal and dark rich earth.
This is a full bodied wine wiyg smooth fresh mouthfeel mouthwatering medium + acidity and medium + grainy tannins that leaves you with a long black fruit earthy graphite finish. Blend of Merlot with 5% Carmenere and 5% Petit Verdot. Deep Ruby with aromas of red berry fruits, floral and spice notes. A blend of 54% Cab Sauv, 38% Merlot & 8% Cab Franc, aged in 60% new oak, deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits, floral and sweet notes. First tried about a year ago. A blend of 72% Cab Sauv, 27% Merlot and 1% Cab Franc, deep Ruby with aromas of black fruit and floral aromas. On the palate blackberry, currant and plum flavors with cacao and oak notes. Fine grainy tannins, medium+ finish, good balance ending with fruit, earthy herbs and cedar notes. — 3 days ago
Deep ruby color with a viscous grip of the glass. Fresh flowers and herbs, cranberry, spearmint, but otherwise youthful nose. Medium weight, medium plus alcohol, dry. Red fruits are more prominent on the front palate with medium acidity, and medium gripped tannins. Medium finish. Way too early to open this one. My fault. It will add at least 2 points with age. Thankfully, I have more that I will not disturb.

Deep Ruby with rich fruit aromas. Don’t be fooled by the easy fruitiness of this delicious wine, look underneath the palate shows blackberry flavors with a meaty tannic structure. Rich, long ending, starting to taste well, will age for another decade. and dense, it promises considerable aging. — 3 days ago
Dark, beautiful color. Decanted for an hour and forty five minutes or so.
Nose: Pencil shavings/graphite, cassis, orange peel, coffee, earth, raisin, milk chocolate, dried flowers, oak, dried herbs, dark berries. Oh boy!
Taste: the milk chocolate and cocoa really come through - along with a lot of herbs Mulberry (think a blackberry with a much more mineral taste.). Medium weight. Silky, elegant. Very, very good. You can tell it’s young (some vegetal tannins on the finish), but still a treat. Of the three excellent, high-er-end-ish (for me) red wines that I’ve had recently, I think this is the one I would be most likely to come back to. 94-95.

Great! 1hr decant but probably should have PnP’d as this tired quickly and is a little past prime drinking window. Started out at 97 and ended at 94. Dark red, maroon color with ample bricking. Nose has bramble, cedar, and licorice. Massive depth which separates the $50+ Bordeaux’s from the same priced Napa wines. Lots of cherries and some Amarone and Port elements near the end. Medium finish. A fav of mine! Very consistent across vintages. — 19 hours ago
