Terre Nere (Campigli Vallona)

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese

Popped and poured; no formal notes. At this stage the 2011 BdM from Terre Nere is fully developed and luscious. Dark cherry fruit with some stewed qualities, kirsch liqueur, orange zest, herbs and espresso. The body is full and almost a bit chewy. Structure is firm but tannin is well integrated and comes across fairly round which is probably more of an indication of the vintage than anything else. Finish is long. This is a more rich and opulent version of this wine. Drink now and through 2030. — 3 days ago

Tenuta Greppo (Biondi-Santi)

Riserva Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

Annata Biondi-Santi. This is absolutely delicious. Always special from this producer. Love the color. Classic Sangiovese. Orange rimmed next to the pale red. Balanced between some grippy but delicate tannins and approachable fruit. The nose has some spice and some earth but they don’t bring a kick so much as depth. The bottom line is you can tell it’s great because the wine drinks so fast! — 11 days ago

Tenuta Greppo (Biondi-Santi)

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

Really quite a fantastic Brunello from an obviously great producer. In a great place at ~9 years but no rush. Lots of refined red fruit on the nose. Manages to get the balance and tension between fruit, earth, and acid nearly perfect. Finish is slightly less expansive and long than I was hoping, and the tannins are a bit unintegrated. But those are nits - delicious and thoroughly enjoyable. Also appreciate the 13.5%. — 19 days ago

Tenuta Caparzo

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2016

The name of the estate comes from "Ca' Pazzo", shown on ancient maps. Caparzo is owned by Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, she also owns Altesino. Deep Ruby with berry fruit aromas with cedar, herbs and smoke, aged for 2 years on oak. On the palate cherry, plum & cranberry flavors, with leather, cacao, spice, herbs and tobacco notes. Lively acidity, fine approachable tannins, long ending with spicy mineral oak finish. — 2 days ago

Poggio Landi Winery

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Really nice but probably needs a few more years. Dark, low-toned fruit, earthy terracotta scents. Savory and fairly big in the mouth. Tannins soft but abundant. — 6 days ago

@Tom Casagrande The trick is waiting while not getting older.

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese Blend 2016

A deep, dark plum color with cherry tinges and a wide brim. This smells exactly as a young Brunello should smell. Cherries for days and days and days. Leather and lace and prominent spices. If you give it plenty of time in the decanter, it really is so pretty.

So this is young but has a ton of promise. The tannins are earthy and firm and there’s spice everywhere, which I love. A bit one note on the palate initially but does gain a bit of complexity over time. On the second day, it starts to sing. You’ll get more chocolate and hazelnut notes. Buy this wine. Buy a few. Drink one now and let the other babies sit. You’ll be rewarded.

Fattoria La Valentina

Spelt Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2016

This was just gorgeous - so elegant, so much style, and I believe this will only improve w/age due to impressive concentration & balance. Ripe black & red fruit, whirlwind of tertiary notes - just kept evolving. Smooth, finely grained tannins & suave acidity. — 7 days ago

Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2012

Popped and poured; no formal notes. A little shy upon opening but after 30min of air, this was bangin’! Montmorency cherry, orange peel, black tea, dry dusty earth, spices. Firm structure. Still quite youthful but undeniably delicious. A wonderful accompaniment to pasta, marinara and panzanella. Drinking very well now with a little air and should continue to do so for another 10+ years. — 12 days ago

Opens up with dark cherries, pomegranate, plums. Then hint of earth and smoke. Nice finish with light acidity and very easy to drink. — 6 days ago

La Cerbaiola di Salvioni Giulio

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2005

Not sure what @Antonio Galloni is talking about in his recent score as this was classic, and deeply so, with wonderfully mature aromatics and palate. He must have had a few bad bottles, I brought this back from Italy a few years ago. Balsamic, more tertiary than primary and more dark red cherry and currant fruits, heady aromatics, lots to like here. Tannin are a little grainy but that's just being a little bit picky. — 6 hours ago
