Pierre Péters

Cuvée de Réserve Brut Blanc de Blancs Chardonnay

Had this in late 2019, this is a new batch, a Fav! Rodolphe Péters took over the reins of this venerable estate in the southern Côte des Blancs in 2008, becoming the 4th generation to lead since the estate was founded in 1919, under the name Camille Péters. 100% Chardonnay, Crisp, fine mousse with steady flow of bubbles. Citrus, and biscuit aromas. Fresh fruit flavors of peach, apples and lemons, smooth and dry. Long mineral finish ending with elegance. Nice! Consistent quality! — 9 days ago

Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2016

4 weary workers drank well tonight.

This was a striking experience. Every disparate element of the wine seems to charge along on parallel planes so that each mouthful is a choose-your-own-adventure. It flies through a range of crunchy red, to floral purple, to sultry black fruit on lithe, peppery tannins. Somehow the texture is creamy -- like an au poivre. All sorts of garrigue and charcuterie, fresh and saline, mingle with newly ripe berries, and as the thing takes a preposterously long time to finish you realize how perfectly acid has been holding everything together.

I may not yet have had the privilege of trying other legend status wines with which one could draw comparisons but this was by far the most complex bottle of (still young!) juice I’ve ever tasted.

What a lovely tasting note and memory to create! This resonates with me. Many years ago, it was an old bottle of Beaucastel that turned me from wine-chugger to wine student overnight. It's a storied domaine, for sure. Cheers!

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2016

Love every vintage of Gonon- the best St. Joseph IMO. So expressive and giving seemingly at any age, as it was here with 2016. My second 2016 in the last few months. Signature inky purple. Deep and intense with great texture showing black fruits, liquid minerals, newly bloomed violets, black olive and hints of cacao. Wonderful concentration, energy and finesse. Stains the palate with a long and assertive finish. Excellent. — 8 days ago

First time experience with this producer.

The nose reveals, bruised; red & golden apple, Bosc pear, overripe stone fruit & pineapple, lemon meringue, touch cider, nougat, almonds, cream to cream soda, hints of melted white butter, melted golden brown sugar, vanillin, sea fossil, crumbled, grey volcanics, chalky power, bread dough to yeast, limestone, understated limestone minerals, spring flowers, jasmine & withering white lilies.

The mouthfeel is rich, lively with excellent mousse. Quite beautiful. Bruised; red & golden apple, Bosc pear, overripe stone fruit & pineapple, lemon meringue, touch cider, nougat, almonds, cream to cream soda & ginger ale, hints of melted white butter, melted golden brown sugar, vanillin, sea fossil, crumbled, grey volcanics, chalky power, bread dough to yeast, hints of coconut with shell, white spice with just the right amount of heat, limestone, understated limestone minerals, spring flowers, jasmine & withering white lilies. The acidity is excellent. The finish is; well balanced & polished, elegant & simply near perfect finish. She is excellent wire to wire.

This is for you if you enjoy a Champagne that leans more oxidative.

@Paul T- Huntington Beach The mid picture to the right is what is seriously lacking in Ultramarine’s.

Soft, elegant tannins, plush, but never cloying. Less rustic than expected—this is our first experience with this appellation. 4-hour decant. Fruit-driven aromatics, palate is more iron/mineral. Great acidity, impeccable structure, medium finish. Beautiful work. — 10 days ago
