Pur Sang Pouilly-Fumé Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Most delicious of the lineup. It really clicked for me, makes me understand how low toast oak can jive with a restrained, pristine sauv blanc character that’s the house signature. Enough air coaxes out apple and a hint of ginger, but it’s that equilibrium between fruit, oak, lees and structure that strikes the match — 3 days ago

Nicolas Joly

Les Vieux Clos Savennières Chenin Blanc 2022

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three hours. The 2022 “Les Vieux Clos” pours a light golden color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with white tree flowers, mandarine oranges, ginger, lanolin and just a touch mousy. On the palate, the wine is slightly off-dry with high acid that’s balanced by the unquestionable quality of the fruit. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, wooly and rich. The alcohol is medium+ but should be at all be surprised? Say what you want about Joly’s methods; his wines are never boring. I, for one, adore them. Drink now through 2032 easy. — a month ago

I’ve never had a Joly that was not too oxidative for me. Sounds like it would have liked this one.

Silex Pouilly-Fumé Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Light golden in color.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity and mouthfeel.

Showing limes, green apples, grapefruits, bitter herbs, spices, light earth, minerals and black pepper.

Spicy finish with bitter almonds.

This is a delicious Sauvignon Blanc From the Loire Valley in France. Rich and elegant. Much more buttery than I expected it to be.

Still young and needs at least 5 years in the bottle to mature properly. I had the 2014 not too long ago, and it was even better.

Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime. Good by itself or with food.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$200.

Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux Vouvray Chenin Blanc 1985

What an amazing grape is Chenin Blanc. We had a delicious dry version from WA earlier in the week and now this gorgeous 39 year old Vouvray from the Loire Valley in half bottle. Not really sweet enough to be called a dessert style - spatlese at best. Mid to pale gold. Toasty notes with pear and mouldy apple. On the palate incredibly fresh and vibrant for its age. Notes of pineapple and a little acid to keep it going in the cellar if desired but hard to beat right now. A great accompaniment to foie gras. One of the 1001 Wines. A wonderful experience. — a month ago

Clos du Bourg Sec Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2021

More complexity bang-for-the-buck than any white I’ve recently had. Fresh balance of floral and chalk with hints of white and melony fruit seeping through the immediate acidity. 3-4 years will pay off huge though at this price hard to resist. — 15 days ago
