Albe Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

#AgedWineTuesday

Pretty color of ruby with a wide brick rim.

Nose of red fruits, tobacco leaf, light wood, spices, coffee, black pepper, vegetables and herbs.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, fresh cherries, spices, light oak and espresso.

Short finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a nice 11 year old Barolo.
A little tight right out of the bottle, and needed 90 minutes of airtime.

Fruity on the nose and earthy on the palate. Elegant and soft.

Still feels very young and would be nice to revisit it in a few years.

Not as complex as I expected it to be, but showed a beautiful nose once it opened up.

Not balanced at this point, and a little tart for me. Could be this specific bottle though.

100% Nebbiolo grapes were aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for 30 months.

14% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$50.

Castiglione Barolo Nebbiolo 2018

Medium “tea” rubi robe, nose of crushed flowers, spices, and dark fruits. Good density and body, acidity, cistercian at this juncture but with excellent potential. Give it 6 or 7 years in bottle. — 12 days ago

Bric dël Fiasc Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two hours. The 2019 “Bric dël Fiasc” pours a beautiful garnet with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose wine is developing with notes of tart and ripe, red (mostly) and black fruits: raspberries, Maraschino cherry, underripe strawberries, cranberries, pomegranate, freshly cut sod, dried green herbs, talcum powder, and dried gravelly earth. On the palate the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, zippy and grippy. A beautiful Bric dël Fiasc that has a long life ahead. Drinking well now and should continue to do so through 2044, easy. — 3 days ago

Monprivato di Castiglione Falletto Barolo Nebbiolo 2017

Bright medium rubi robe, nose of crushed flowers, asian spices and cherries. Medium bodied, light on its feet, drinking truly well now but with many years ahead, its elegant, complex and does not lack power either. Top barolo. — 19 days ago

Barbaresco Nebbiolo

Well developed and plateauing now. Lacks fruit density to carry tertiary development. Great match with veal cheeks, wild mushrooms and risotto. — 5 days ago

Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo 1924

The color of weak coffee with some bottle of the bottom gunk. Va on the nose and light notes of roses and dried fruit. On the palate very pure and lifted. Obviously aged but softening with air and bright and pretty. What a surprise given it’s a centurion. — 7 days ago

Barbera d'Alba 2022

Dark ruby color with purple highlights. Expressive aromas of red berries, rose petals, violets and red plum. Bold palate is a blend of red and black cherries, red and black berries and sweet baking spices. Firm tannins and hefty structure. Long lasting and vibrant. Wonderful freshness and very versatile from a pairing perspective. I did not notice the 15+% alcohol content. Solid QPR. — 17 days ago

I think this is an excellent Barolo/nebbiolo. Relatively light and herbal, light red fruit notes, fine tannins. Interesting that I bought for $75 but it now lists for $95+. Would love to drink more. Paired with a nice sangiovese — a Brunello di Montalcino — and I think this edged that one. RP 96 pts. — 9 days ago
