Marquis De La Tour

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville

Champans Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2010

A very fragrant and complex nose of dark cherries, blood orange, blackcurrant, white pepper and star anise. The palate is also complex and elegant, such balance with the fine fruit, a mineral acidity almost, and fine grained tannins with such an impressive length, on this delicious finish. So classy and a great bottle in this 2010 vintage. I am usually a tough marker but 94-95 even for this one.

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2009

Je me lasse jamais de boire du sauternes! Belle Tour Blanche en demi. À point avec le gateau au fromage en pot. Belle viscosité, caramel, vernis, pelure d’orange confite, longue finale. Bu sur 3 jours — 22 days ago

Sous la Tour Pinot Noir 2016

Boldly and marvelously fragrant, with ripe cherry, blackberries, almond paste, cinnamon stick, and hints of cloves, spicy mint, and warm tires on the nose. Dark cherry, juicy plum, raspberry on the palate with notes of milk chocolate giving way to sharp scratchy mint-tea tannins and a hint of bacon fat emerging with black peppercorns on a long finish. Very well done and interesting. Excellent value — 4 days ago

The bacon fat sounds more like Syrah than Pinot, but a brilliant list of descriptors

Château la Tour de l'Évêque

Côtes de Provence Cabernet Sauvignon Syrah 2016

Dark ruby with jewel-like highlights. Dark fruit, cassis, and potent leather on the inviting nose and medium palate. Medium tannins. Medium plus acidity (very assertive for a red). A fine example of the Provençal rouge. Made for food, it will pair wonderfully anywhere you’d take Cabernet, Syrah, or even Pinot Noir. Drink now through 2027. — 16 days ago

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville

Clos des Ducs Monopole Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 1999

First dinner with guests (2) since February. Doors open, hepa filters, masks, and we got tested first. Precautions were maybe over the top but both families are in contact with elderly people so we wanted to be careful. The wine delivered. Every guest commented on the unusual combination of being complex and light bodied - weightless, clean, mineral, complex. — 11 days ago

Still quite warm here. Don’t be distracted by the color; this is classic rosé. — 18 days ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

Just phenomenal stuff. Perfume right out of the gate was dusty books, cassis and tobacco - ethereal and transcendent. Palate was fresh deep and complex - cassis, cloves, animal and dusty leather. Finish is long and super. This was a bottle kept at LLC so perfectly stored. Incredible experience — 4 days ago
