Listrac Médoc, Médoc

Château Lestage-Simon

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Dark, blackish robe, nose of asphalt, black cherries, anise and flowers. Medium bodied and rich but not overdone. Lots of Merlot here but good share of Cabernet too, like 60/40 I guess. Very classical in style and most pleasant, we liked it a great deal. — 15 days ago

Château Palmer

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

Mesmerizing - took about 45 mins for the nose to spring to life but boy did it - violets juxtaposed with graphite and old library notes - sexy. Palate was outstanding- blue fruits, spice box, tobacco, leather and extremely long and silky finish. A perfect wine in my opinion — 4 days ago

Drank 8/6/22

Excellent with grilled lamb chops

Decanted 1 hour.

On the nose blackberry, plum, and a touch of soil. On the palate blackberry, raspberry, cedar, leather, and hints of earth. Very well balanced with medium, well integrated tannins. Long finish with black fruit, soi,l and wood. I don't see this getting much better. Drink now and over the next 5 years. Delicious!

Château Lynch-Bages

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1959

Dark tawny center with amber color and clear rims. Barely translucent. Massive nose of tobacco and Cuban cigar with notes of sweet black fruit, moist dark soil, unsweetened chocolate, pencil lead, old cedar desk wood and a little barnyard. Great mouth feel and texture. Very much alive. Opened and slow-ox’d for a few hours, then put in a decanter an hour before. This powered up all night. Last sip was the best. I’ve probably had more LB than any other Bordeaux (young and old, mostly old), and this was head and shoulders better than any previous bottle. Great juice! — 18 days ago

Château Caronne Ste. Gemme

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Just needed time, both in storage and decant. Better on the 2nd day
Some historical stuff I found online,

The Chateau Caronne Ste. Gemme property has been making wine since the French Revolution and has existed since the mid 1600's. Now in the hands of the Nony family, who is related to the Borie family of multi-chateau fame, the estate is in excellent hands.
The vines average about thirty years of age and are located in the southwest corner of Saint Julien. The grapes are fermented in cement vats where they also undergo malolactic fermentation. From there they're aged in one third new French oak for one year before bottling.

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1985

1985. Synth laden moment. Depeche mode. Tears for fears. But I digress. Just opened this. It’s quite a structured wine. The nose is a little muddled right now but that’s because I didn’t decant. That said, after 15 minutes of opening in the glass the nose is indeed tannic cherry skin. Musty and such, but that fruit profile is obvs right up front. I would say that the same is true on the front palate. Cherries with immediacy and extremely full fruit. That is what drives my initial rating here. So rich and definitive fruit. Finish not real refined but it’s only been 15 minutes and this wine has just had the wires jacked out of it Matrix style. It doesn’t know itself yet. Will post some notes in a few hours to see if the landscape has changed. Cheers! — 3 days ago

Old school in a good way. Mellow, elegant. Cab-forward but the merlot is def there in the background. Black currant, tobacco, cedar, some red fruit notes. My kind of Bordeaux — 9 days ago
