Médium lemon yellow . Quite concentrated nose with lemon rind , white flowers , orange zest , toasty , roasted almond hints . On the palate this is quite concentrated and structured , orange rind , brioche , roasted almonds , with a oyster shell , chalky finish . Good length , high slightly astringent acidity . This is young and needs a little time to integrate better . — 3 months ago
The Grand Cuvée 170ème is based on the 2014 vintage (which comprises about 55% of the final blend) with the remainder being reserve vintages going back to 1998. Popped and poured; enjoyed two bottles from the same source back to back with consistent results (because it was so damned good and YOLO). The 170ème pours a straw color with persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart and ripe orchard fruit with some autolytic and charming oxidative notes: green apple, citrus, lemon curd, toasted brioche, hazelnuts and chalky minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid (but balanced by the fruit and non-fruit). Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is creamy. There such a deft balance of acid and richness that Krug arguably does better than anyone; at least consistently. Always a banger. Drink now through 2039. Disgorged Summer of 2021. — 5 days ago
They are the King’s of Champagne for a reason.
Beautiful mousse. Both yellow & white stone fruits, tropicals, lime & lemon zest/pulp, green & red apple, cream to whipped cream, ginger skin, grey volcanics-limestone minerals, white spice, taunt chalk, baguette crust, sea fossils/foam, white spring flowers, yellow lilies, excellent acidity, balance, structure, tension & elegance for days with a finish that ends balanced on fruit & minerality.

[En magnum, 80% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc] Medium-dark purple color, dark plum and spicy aromas and flavors, youthful but not overly tannic, great balance, lowish (12.5%) ABV (my strong preference in Bordeaux), fresh and lively, medium-long finish, should easily age 5-10 more years (particularly in this magnum format, very good! — 2 months ago
