Estate Livermore Valley Petite Sirah 2016

A very pretty color of dark ruby, with a wide reddish rim.

Nice nose of blueberries, violets, blackberries, black cherries, light oak, vanilla, chocolates, licorice, spices, black pepper, earth and pencil lead. Very enjoyable nose.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, strawberries, red currants, spices, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs, dark chocolates, coffee and peppercorn.

Medium plus on the finish with soft tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a very nice and easy drinking Petite Sirah from California. Showing mild complexity with a nice mouthfeel. Nice and tangy. Spicy, smooth and elegant.

Interesting to see black fruits on the nose and red fruits on the palate. I really enjoyed the nose.

Needs 30 minutes of airtime, and good by itself or with food. Would be nice to revisit it in a couple of years.

I paired it with salami and cheddar cheese.

13.9% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2006

A blend of 68% Cab Sauv, 20% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot and 2% Cab Franc, dark Ruby with aromas of ripe dark red fruits, cigar-box spice, floral and cedar notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry and black cherry with notes of licorice, pepper, vanilla and toasty spice. Fine tannins, integrating well with oak, good overall balance, long finish ending with fruit, floral and sweet oak. Great now, still has long aging potential left! — 18 days ago

Alpine Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

Very good pinot. Hard to tell it is from California...cool fruit and has that menthol taste i usually associate with the Vougeot wines from Vougeraie but also has that orange peel flavor giving it a very special character — 5 days ago

@Mario Vaillancourt oui je dirais à ce stade le Rhys est meilleur mais il a 5 ans de plus derrière la cravate et je pense c’est une grande raison pourquoi

There’s this expression that has arisen in the wine industry in the past decade - “crushable” or “smashable” wines, wines that All but demand you drink another glass and another until you realize sadly that you’ve drunk the entire bottle and you desperately want another. I’ve had my share of such wines, but this is my new favorite “gimme the whole bottle” font of deliciousness. @ownrooted has hit it out of the park with this mixed-black field blend of 1920’s-planted vines in decomposed granite sand. Berries, herbs, earth and an incredible saline kick gives this wine mouthwatering “come hither” appeal. I wish I had 24 more bottles. — 17 days ago

Horseshoe Vineyard Chardonnay 2010

“Piss” yellow color. Faint bubbles of effervescence. Burnt salted caramel nose. Candied lemon/lime. Distinctly front- and mid-palette loaded. Lemon curd. Very long finish. Excellent freshness for a 10 year old. Quite good, though Aubert is comparable with half the age. — 16 days ago
