Monthélie Pinot Noir 1990

Nose has black cherry preserves, ripe mulberry, dry garden soil, slight tin notes, washed blueberries and damp leather.

Palate has light ripe (sweet) cherry, dried raspberry, dried tart cherry, dried leaves/leather, rose hip tea and moist soil. Lingering finish, acidity still present.

Cork pulled for slow oxidation at 10H, then double-decanted and 2H rest. All these bottles have been wonderful, glad to have more, ullage continually better.

Paired to asian-style rub, mesquite smoke, reverse sear (120°F slow heat, 10m rest, then high heat sear to 145°F internal), pork tenderloin. Perfection.

@Lyle Fass Incredibly, looks like dad had good vineyard sites, but 1990 a great vintage with a long future.

Nose is very seashelly.

Palate is silky. Great texture. Green apple. Mineral. Wow.

Bought from fass selections.

Intriguingly bitter. I like bitter. This has a walnut-like bitterness. And also there’s the snazzy green Apple notes and…marzipan if it were not sweet? — 7 months ago

Interesting. Dried fruits, dried honey, mildly floral. Terroir driven overall. Seems like it should be sweet but no. — 2 months ago

Les Bressandes Corton Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1999

This is why I buy burgundy - wow. So happy to find 6 more w/solid provenance after opening this bottle. PNP and it still outdid the Faiveley with a 3 hour decant. Faiveley was also fantastic. — 5 months ago

Bourgogne Pinot Noir 1992

Nose has fresh cherry, under-ripe cherry, ripe raspberry, strawberry jam, slight wood bark, slight alcohol, cherry jolly rancher candy and dried cherry.

Palate has (bright) dehydrated tart cherry, dried strawberry, slight acidic notes, dehydrated citrus with mild tannins.

Decanted 2H, high acidity nose on initial pour. Wine displays translucent amethyst with clear, light brown edge.

An absolutely fantastic Bourgogne! Bought a few months ago from a trusted source ($36!), honestly expecting to be dead, but we're so far from that it's breaking my mind...
I believe this is Monthélie vines.
The most perfect and supple cork, no Durand required today.

Paired to duck confit and green lentils, a favorite meal for cats and humans in our humble abode.

Alas the wood has outlasted the fruit here.

The fruit is still lovely. Balanced cherry fruit. But there is still a tinge of wood which I find irritating. Let’s see how this airs.

I love this vintage. Haven’t had this in a while. Nose is reticent but very fine and refined. Brambly red cherries. Really delicate and detailed. So pretty. Strawberry. Palate is plush, deep and has gorgeous soft but substantial tannins. Needs mega air as this cuvee always does but superb quality. Nose gets more spicey as if aerates. Awesome fruit sweetness and such wonderful tiny berry fruit intensity. — 6 months ago

Terrific wide open and expressive nose of earthy cherries that are singularly mid season, with terrific stoniness and wonderful freshness. Such a great complexity on the nose. Vibrant, focused and deep. Some licorice after air. Palate is juicy and complex. Laserlike, focused, straight as an arrow, elegant tannins. Nose is opening up more and more. Spice. Seaweed in a good way. Perfect balance. — 7 months ago
