Beautiful wine. Easy to drink but not weak. Strong for a Riesling. A good winter white. — 16 days ago
Love Elio Altare wines, one of my favorite Piedmont producers. Entry level nebbiolo that drinks way above it’s price point. Think value priced Barbaresco. — a month ago
Miles to go. Beautiful, but too young. Glad I have more! — 2 months ago
Popped and poured. The 2006 Vallegrande pours a garnet color with a slightly orange rim. Medium+ viscosity with no signs of sediment and no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is beginning to express some secondary notes but still being led by fruit: cherries, dried herbs, some tar, red flowers, and spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin (which is integrating well) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. Drinking well now with some patience and should continue to do so for another 5-10 years. — a month ago
A nice wine though I don’t see this being really interesting. More on the simple side. — 2 months ago
Fabulous on the nose, elegant and balanced. — a month ago
Popped and poured; consumed over a few hours. The 2016 Barbera "Vigna Martina" is deep, dark ruby with an almost impenetrable core. More than ample in the fruit department with all the dark berries. However, it's got enough of the non-fruits: the inorganic earth, purple flowers, some herbs and spices, to leave one in no doubt of its origin. This is certainly one of the more polished versions of Barbera. As for longevity, even at 6 years post vintage, this seemed fairly primary. That being said and based off my experiences with Barbera in this category, I expect the secondary characteristics of leather to begin emerging in the next couple of years. Tasty now and should continue to reward through 2030. — 2 months ago
From the man himself, Elio Altare, at the cusp of integration with at least a couple of facades and decades to go… Classic Barolo with rose petals, cherry, sharp tannins, and brutally elegant. — a month ago
