Domaine Montrose

Château Montrose

La Dame de Montrose Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Really a pretty nice second wine from a great Bordeaux house (Montrose). In general I prefer St Julien to St Estephe but this is very good. Decanted 2 hours which I recommend. Inky in the glass. Some good secondary notes on the nose. Fruit is very there, but more acid to keep it balanced than I expected. Nice with a prime ribeye on the grill. — 6 days ago

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

I was very interested in trying this bottle for myself, as I know I’d seen a little Insta-negativity surrounding it 😅. There’s complex aromatics of cassis, savory herbs, tobacco, truffle, graphite and mint. Initially it’s heavily herbaceous and driven by its aged secondary character, probably more so than to my liking.

But, it really turns a corner and picks up weight and fruit expression after about an hour or so in the decanter. At this time it shows an open and seductive profile with a velvety texture and a balanced expression of fruit and tertiary character which lead to a very persistent finish. Overall I enjoyed this bottle, as my expectations were in check, although it doesn’t compare to Montrose in this vintage which is utterly superb.

Le Saint-Estèphe de Montrose Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

Blend of 49% Merlot, 43% Cab Sauv, 4% Cab Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, aged in 30% new and 70% one-year old barrels for 12 months, deep Ruby with aromas of red/black fruits and notes of tobacco and earthy herbs. On the palate flavors of Black cherry, raspberry and currants, light cigar spice, cacao and herb notes. Firm approachable tannins, long finish ending with fruit and earthy mineral character. Very nice! — 6 months ago

Rosé Vin de Pays de l'Hérault 2020

Rose at dinner with my daughter, this pairs amazingly well with both light game meats such as rabbit and vegetarian dishes like my seaweed gnocchi. Bright notes of summer fruits and dry for my pallet. Wonderful. — 9 months ago

Showing all the aspects of a grand Bordeaux vintage.

It’s velvet, candied floral, ruby; creamed raspberries, blackberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, dry stone, limestone & sandstone, black rich earth, tobacco, used leather, tomato with leaf, elegance defined, well knitted & balanced, dark spice, dry top soil, underbrush, candied florals of; fresh, withering, dark, red, purple and touch of blue flowers. Round acidity for days with a long, ripe, velvet finish persistent that falls into a dry minerality on the long set.

Photos of; us spending time learning in the vineyard with our friend & Clerc Milon Winemaker-Jean, Sofia picking the 2012 Chateau Mouton Rothschild Merlot, same day dinner at Chateau Mouton Rothschild sitting with their CEO who was retiring & subsequently ended up running Montrose. Bottom pic is Chateau Clerc Milon. We enjoyed 75 Mouton out of 6L with dinner. The vintage Andy Warhol designed the label. Each artist is given two cases of Mouton as payment if their artwork is selected for their bottle.

Our hands are all over the 2012 Chateau Mouton Rothschild & Clerc Milon wines. So, you probably don’t want to buy those or sell them on an auction site if you own. 😜
